To pay supposed student athletes. The fact that you are willing play this game for a bunch of spoiled athletes and their families that have basically destroyed not just college football but all of college athletics with their greed is the biggest part of the problem.
Selfish ADs, coaches and players have ruined what amateur sports and the real student athlete was supposed to be.
It was flawed, sure. It had its people that skirted the rules, sure. But now it is not even a shell of what it was.
Congrats to those of you supporting this idiocy in the name of players getting paid.
Hopefully college athletics pushes them all out and returns to its roots. Let the NFL and NBA pay legitimately for their own minor leagues and let the kids that actually want to be student athletes and deserve to be student athletes get opportunities, and make college sports back to what it was meant to be.

Not anymore. At least not in football. Maybe basketball too.

Fans typically care about the name on the front of the jersey more. You could put D3 athletes in Bama and LSU gear and the game would still sellout and we’d be none the wiser. frick it, let HS kids go straight to the NFL if they want and give me the kid that wants to be here.

I hate the Wild West of current athletics and I hope some type of revenue share through each conference ties this up. While money always wins the ROI is not reliable and need to be pulled back a bit. I hate it when guys bust but imagine all that 12 million goes to a guy that busts think of the ripple or D Thomas busts at Oregon. This isn't monopoly money these are boosters who want to get enjoyment in return not a feeling that they got ripped off.

Amateur sports and real student-athletes have not existed for a century at the top level of college football or basketball for the most part. The ones who skirted the rules were every successful team, everyone. Even LSU.
For at least 4 or 5 decades college football has been rolling on dough, particularly for the last two decades, all the while prohibiting so-called athletes from even having a job off-campus.
Now you get to see how the sausage is made.

Congrats for supporting socialist ideology, I guess.

Again, the purpose of college athletics was for amateurs and to give people a chance to attend college that otherwise would not have been able to financially and potentially due to academic limitations.
Instead, they are now purely farm leagues for the pros and are an insult to the idea of a student athlete at most places.
So stop with the “free market” nonsense. If they want that, let them create a semi-pro non-amateur league and you can go support it. Instead, you support hijacking universities and colleges to sponsor a professional leagues farms.

Not even close on most of that.

It was for college students, professionalism rules came later because people started using ringers who were not students.

That is a fairly recent rationalization for college athletics. The early reasoning was for physical training. The sound mind and sound body idea. Initially, colleges opposed organized athletics but increasing intramural sports essentially forced them to get involved.

Again, spoken like a true socialist.

I will always follow and support LSU athletics. If they do what you say, you will probably be on here crying about the quality of college athletics.

I support LSU athletics,

College athletics did this to themselves by turning college athletics into a multibillion-dollar (13.6 billion in revenue in 2022) industry while preventing athletes from even getting a part-time job for fear of cheating while looking the other way at major colleges cheating, Occasionally making examples of small to mid-level colleges with no real leverage. Colluding with professional leagues to delay playing from entering the professional ranks.
Rich that you think this was some pure bastion of amateurism. It has not been that for so long that I have no recollection of the time when it was so and I am almost 63 years old. I remember when it was less obvious but it was still there.

I would be ok with nfl starting up a starter league.
Problem is lsu and all ncaa has the money bug and wayyyyyy to much money tied up in tv deals.
So it will never ever be like we used to see it

College football was NEVER about giving "people a chance to attend college that otherwise would not have been able to financially and potentially due to academic limitations."
People got a scholarship because they could help the team win. That's the way it's always been.
Coach/Booster: "We need you; you can really help the team!"
Player: "I can't afford college."
Coach/Booster: "We'll pay your tuition."
Player: "Yale said they'd pay my tuition, and buy me bus tickets for my mother."
Coach/Booster: "Son, with as fast as you are, we'll pay your tuition, room and board, and we'll buy you a car."
quote:There have been professional athletes in college football since the sport began. The 1908 LSU was accused of having professional players.
Instead, they are now purely farm leagues for the pros and are an insult to the idea of a student athlete at most places.
quote:Damn, you are really dumb. The conferences and schools are making hundreds of millions of dollars, the coaches are making tens of millions of dollars. The players have been getting paid a pittance since the sport began, but they've been getting paid since the sport began.
So stop with the “free market” nonsense. If they want that, let them create a semi-pro non-amateur league and you can go support it. Instead, you support hijacking universities and colleges to sponsor a professional leagues farms.

Tell that to AYS’s Blake Ruffino. He was calling out LSU fans yesterday for not giving $50-$100 month to the Bayou Traditions. Even if LSU fans gave more money, we’re still not competing with Michigan and Texas money.

Even with revenue sharing being implemented next year, the cat is out the bag on giving players a money bag..It will be interesting how the future state will be enforced

That's why professional players were recruited to play college football.
That's why players have been paid millions of dollars under the table for decades.
That's why Michigan is paying a kid $12 million to play there.
Because "You could put D3 athletes in Bama and LSU gear and the game would still sellout and we’d be none the wiser."

The problem that a huge % of us have is that the current state of college sports has almost nothing to do with “college”.
Most of these “athletes” don’t want to go to school and want nothing to do with the actual college they supposedly play for.
They are nothing but hired mercenaries wearing uniforms with a college name on it, that they have nothing to do with, and want nothing to do with.
You are literally cheering for laundry with lsu on it.

Most people complained about all of the rules the NCAA implemented to try to keep competition somewhat equitable. Many on here said ignore the NCAA when they were fishing around our basketball team etc etc. Now that the negotiations are out in the open, many people are losing their minds.

LSU "bought" Skenes, White, and Hurd for a pennies compared to what football players are getting paid. They also reportedly donated their NIL money to charity fwiw. Baseball NIL deals might pay all of their tuition plus a a little spending money. No baseball player is getting rich off of an NIL deal. The vast majority of them are still in the red financially not even having full scholarships. Baseball and other non-revenue sports are the last remaining relics of what college sports used to be
