This was a loaded WR class. Him and Chase are 1A and 1B next year in a class where you likely can’t get a starter in the 3rd round.

I agree it was his worst game, but Devonta Smith didn’t “really give it to him.” What Chase did to AJ Terrell in the NC game is “giving it to him”

One play was a fluke, he got burnt on another, and got beat on a back shoulder—which is the hardest pass to defend when thrown well.

What makes you think that there will be less WR next year? With everyone playing 7 on 7 all summer, all you see are WR on the recruiting boards. This has been going on for a while and I don't see it mitigating anytime soon. Top talent will go to WR rather than RB if they have NFL asperations.

You're forgetting about Waddle (who many people thinks is more naturally talented than Smith) and Justyn Ross. And I personally think Terrace Marshall will shoot up some draft boards like JJets did this past season.

Devonta Smith coming out of high school was the best wide out coming out of Louisiana in years. His route running, body control, size, speed and maturity are the reason why he gave an elite true freshman a hard time in that game. Remember, he had a lot of experience versus Stingley that game.

Stingley wasn’t himself for a few games after he took the hit to the head and twisted his knee vs Florida but by the end of the season he was back playing at an elite level. He’ll be 100% next go round then we’ll see him handle up on Smith.

I was about to say he locked a step slower for a while after the Florida game. Of course still plenty fast but I didn’t quite see the 4.30 speed he had coming out of high school. That knee injury def played a part in smith getting the best of him. Hopefully fully healthy, improved technique(which is already elite) with a year of experience under his belt he’ll be ready for round 2 vs smith

Yep, remember vs Florida he took a knee to the head then twisted his knee on the TD pass during first drive of the second half? Florida went after him successfully immediately after the first hit then on the next drive. He pulled himself together and made the big play in crunch time but you could tell during the next month really he was just a step slow and wasn’t really coming up and tackling like he had before or after. He was hurt but the kid is a gamer and played through it never complaining once.

Agreed kids like stingley never make excuses for poor play he still competed and battled like nothing was wrong. It’s exciting to imagine what an experienced stingley looks like with a year under his belt and his technique even more refined than it already is. You can tell he’s back to full speed by the GA game. The way he completely blanketed Justyn Ross in the title game was fun to watch

Eh I dont Think that’s fair.

Yeah Smith beat him that last play but honestly it’s BS the standard CB are held to

Alabama threw 40 passes

Smith Caught 7

2 of them went for 85 and 64

So the other 38 passes Stingley did pretty well.
