I almost guarantee you that if it is physically possible for him to play again this year, he will play again at LSU.

Keep talking shite though

I agree. It's like painting a deer orange and putting a target on its side, prior to hunting season.

talked to Corey Raymond, he said the doctors and coaches had to hold him back because he wanted to play. Also was told by another source he was not putting in the effort in terms of pt /things the medical staff was instructing him to do to rehab his foot, which played a part in him having to have minor surgery. who knows what the kids mindset really is

If his dad wasn't in the picture you’d prolly shite on that too. Parents never stop protecting their children. Regardless of what the actual situation is with stingley, Coach O has seriously failed his players and his parents should be very involved with making sure their child has as many opportunities ahead of him.

“I appreciate all of the support from LSU and the fans,” Stingley Jr. said. “I’m doing all that I can to return to the field as soon as possible. I want to finish out the season with my teammates and I will do everything I can to get healthy so that I will be able to play again this year.”

Thanks and good luck in the NFL.

The season is a wash for 90+ teams before it even begins. Are you suggesting all their best players just sit out? Have you ever played sports before?

I understand the talent but this kid shows me zero heart. Has one good season with the greatest team of all time and then sits out most of the next two years while his team is struggling. I honestly wouldn’t risk a top 5/10 draft pick on the kid anymore. Hope he gets drafted late first round cause he only seems to wanna play when he’s on a winning team and he isn’t getting that as a high draft pick.

He had gone elsewhere to see a specialist to see if he could avoid surgery. There would have been no way to announce sooner he was getting surgery until he knew he was actually getting surgery.

You are missing the larger (and more important) point. This isn't specific to surgery. If anything, the surgery makes it easy to justify not returning.

Stingley went through a week or two of criticism about opting out before he made a statement. Given his father's previous public statements, he should have said "I'm rehabbing my injury so I can return to the field as soon as possible. Please keep me in your prayers."

And I also don't know why this should have been communicated earlier? So the fans are more accepting of him actually being hurt?

So that the speculation and rumor of him faking an injury because he was "opting out" (as his father hinted he may do) didn't occur or at least was minimized. In other words, for his best interest.

We all know he's not returning. Yet, he's releasing this for a reason. That same logic applied two weeks ago.

Where are all those clown reporters and people on here saying it was just a couple of weeks injury?

So he's getting the surgery to have an excuse not to play? That sounds logical

They said last week he was going out of state to meet with a specialist to get a second opinion.

"The timetable for Stingley's return remains muddled.

Orgeron said Wednesday the 2019 All-American flew out of town to consult with doctors and learn more about his situation.

Appearing on The Jordy Culotta Show, Derek Stingley Sr. said he and his son were awaiting more testing before making a decision about the next steps. While Stingley is optimistic about returning to the field this season, surgery remains a possibility, and he could be out for an extended period."

What exactly more did you need to know? It took him 2 weeks to pull the trigger, after getting multiple medical opinions, to go ahead and undergo surgery. It's unreasonable for you to expect him to know or say more when he was still being evaluated by medical professionals

What difference does it make to him whether the fans speculate he's faking an injury?

You can have a productive season without competing for a championship. Look at 2018 for burrow and what became the 2019 season. The current state of the program is so far from 2018 let alone 2019 that it does have the feeling of another lost season. I have a hard time imaging that Coach O cares about anything right now other than keeping his job so when you have a selfish mindset at the top how can you expect the players to think of the “greater good”. The ship already sunk its time to find a life boat.

Man shut the frick up. He clearly was told that he could treat it non op originally. It clearly never got better, hence why he’s having surgery now.

It’s almost as if the collective mind of the Rant caused this to happen

Enough people posted after UCLA “Stingley is going to get injured and miss the season” that it came true.

He clearly should've seen a doctor and got other opinions. He most likely knew he couldn't go a full season once he got back in pads.

I don't blame him because this season is a wash and he's going to prepare for the draft.

But I do think it's skeptical that he didn't get surgery sooner to actually have a chance to come back 100%. He said in his own comment on OP he hopes to be back this season. We all know that's not gonna happen. Had he had surgery sooner though he would be able to.

This is absurd on so many levels. Are you seriously implying that he knew he was going to need surgery months ago, and continued to play on an injured foot just so he could get away with taking the rest of the year off to prepare for the draft?

That is the exact opposite of what a player would do if he was only concerned with getting to the NFL draft. Why would he knowingly allow his injury to become more severe for any reason other than actually wanting to play for LSU this year?

I know it’s hard to tRant to believe, but maybe - just maybe - the kid actually is a competitor and does want to be there for his teammates and his school. Maybe that’s why he tried to play through the injury until it was clear that he wasn’t going to be able to avoid surgery.

Maybe his heart actually is in the right place, he’s been out there fighting through his foot injury every day, and that’s why his dad has been so defensive and angry when fans question his effort.

The truth is always somewhere in the middle, but it blows my mind that our fans continue to come up with conspiracy theories no matter what happens to the kid. If he got hit by a bus, people would be saying that Stingley Sr. paid the bus driver to hit him so that he could opt out for the draft.
