But the look of this team so far isnt very good to me.
If we can get to the NIT this year, that would a step up from last year.

Stro and TB are right on in this thread.
It's too early into this season to pass judgment with a young team. The building blocks are there and TJ is doing it the right way.
The next two years and beyond will hopefully prove that LSU basketball will be a consistent winner for a long time.

I cant stand all the excuses made for Johnson. Not that LSU wont become a decent program, but basketball is not a sport where you need 2-3 years to show results. It just isnt.
I agree with Lester-

I would almost say w/ 100% certainty that this team will be a force after these guys get some time under the belt.
Add the guys coming in the next two years and LSU will be relevant again real soon.
I say 2012-13 we'll be competing for an SEC Championship.

this year looks pretty bleak

I'll reserve judgement.
first off, coach K couldn't have won 4 games with our team in the SEC last year. secondly, this team is full of freshman with below average upperclassmen. if you or anyone else expected this year to be a tournament team then that's just dumb expectations going into the year. everyone knew this the day after we lost to UNC...unless we were to pull a 5-star 1 & done then we were gonna suck the next 2 years but let's not kid ourselves we are the only school in america where basketball is 3rd tier..it's #1 or #2 in every other major university
now i agree Johnson has to make the tournament next year or he may feel pressure...with our freshmen maturing + no graduates + hamilton + o'bryant + whomever else we land, we will be a fielding a damn strong team
how many bball games have you actually attended this year? i've been to all but 1 home game...i'm not calling myself a superfan but i feel i have as good of a grasp on our just as anyone else....as much as you post, i can't see you getting off your couch to even make a game

Coach K wouldnt have his team in that position.
Even a 2nd tier coach like Pearl doesnt put his team in that kind of position.

trust me, after last year I didnt expect jack shite from this team

I dont live in Baton Rouge, and even if i did, I probably wouldnt pay to see this team

this alone tells me i shouldnt even be discussing basketball with you
at the end of the day Trent Johnson is going to get a pass because we "arent a basketball school"?
with that attitude we will never be good. Its not his job to worry about what tier school we are.
Posted on 12/13/10 at 6:47 pm to Lester Earl
I never knew you needed a 2-3 year foundation to win in a game with 5 men on the court. the rant teachs you new things every day.

i'm not giving him a pass. i think he's a damn strong coach and you can't expect anyone to just waltz in here and be a top 10 program with what we have...once he gets talent we will be back on the map but i've been following LSU basketball closely for over a decade and never has LSU been anything but a third tier school...even during our final 4 year and ranked in the top 25 winning the SEC going 14-2 we still couldn't pack the rafters....i sure hope Johnson can put us back on the map though but that's a daunting task for any coach in america...i'm afraid we will lose him to a bigger name school before he does so

So would winning 3 SEC games. For me, we are not where I thought we'd be. As many have said, Bruce Pearl has been to 5 straight tourneys. UT hasn't been good in hoops since 2000. Do any of you guys know how many tournaments Buzz Peterson went to?
Pearl had UT a literal overnight success and LSU shouldn't have any problems doing that. Sure it's too early to jump ship, but we've looked like crap so far and our schedule (especially home) is an abomination.
Let's get some interest in the program and schedule some good OOC games like A&M/Texas/Zona/WVU/OSU.
I was as die hard as any LSU hoops fan, but I have taken a nose dive as far as interest goes.

LOL at you guys with the Pearl comparisons. You're using a known cheater and admitted liar to the NCAA and his own boss as the measuring stick for our coach?
A guy who is a sleazy as they come, a basketball version of Lane Kiffen?
A coach whose top recruiter was just banned from recruiting for a year?
A coach who lost multiple players due to arrest last season?
This is what we are striving for?
You guys suck.
I like the approach Trent is taking. Im willing to be patient for long term success -- the right way.

Point taken, a very little. I'm talking about a coach who overnight made Tennessee a winner. You can be as patient as you like but nothing has come to fruition past season one win brady's guys. Season 3 with a loss to nicholls and a hideous home slate was not what I envisioned. Those facts can't be argued.
Eta: also a coach who sold his program not only to his fans but to the national media. What has Trent done to draw anyone to the pmac? Also, I think trent is a fair/good coach.

pearl had 2 JR recruits over to his house for a BBQ and made a few phone calls to recruits out of season, i can see why all the recruits are flocking to Knoxville.
lets not mention that he could possibly be a good coach. The fruit of his "illegal" recruiting tactics have netted exactly 1 NBA player, with a total of ZERO being drafted.
its not possible that his players rally around him, love playing for him, and respond to his coaching techniques.
and its guaranteed long term success?
3 years from now of uneventful basketball and you essentially could look back and say "well there's 5 years down the drain because we all loved Trent Johnson's long term approach. Let's give him 2 more years".
then again, you are such a homer you could never say anything critical of LSU basketball. So you prob would want to give him more time if that were the case.

First of all, you don't know anything about me.
Secondly, LSU is one season removed from an SEC title and you are talking like we have been in a multi-season downward spiral.
This team has no seniors and a very nice class coming in. The Brady era was consumed with negativity and I'm fricking sick of it. It's possible to be optimistic without having sunshine coming out of your arse.

I'm beginning to think that John effin Wooden couldn't win here.

Wow, Pearl supporters on this thread. Yeah, these same fans think Miles is a disgrace, imagine if we have a known and admitted cheater running our program that paints his body orange during the girls games. I'm sure these same folks would just love him.

LSU losing to Coastal Carolina at home. That's embarassing.
