It would be beneficial to DH for him when Skenes is pitching

I'm tired of seeing this. Bad idea to begin with, but even if they would want to they can't. It is against the rules to DH for anyone other than the pitcher. DHing for the pitcher is optional, but if you don't the pitcher hits for himself.

Pitchers should hit.

I think he will/would hit if they need him

I enjoy the increased strategy involved when pitchers hit: double switches, pinch hitters, et cetera.

Understandable, I used to think that way until I realized its more fun to watch hitters hit and pitchers pitch.

Always thought the same being an Astros fan and when they switched to the AL years ago I hated it at first and then it grew on me more and more every year.

My story is the exact opposite as a Rangers fan - started watching more NL ball in the 2010s and it grew on me.

There is a 0% chance of this happening. As a matter of fact, I'm going to say Skenes gets under 25 total at bats for the entire season. And it could be way under. That is assuming that he remains in good pitching health, a weekend starter, and we are not struggling at all on offense.

Man, I had an extremely hard time looking at Guidry from a physical standpoint and thinking he was anywhere near ready to compete in the sec and take over at SS like a lot of people on here swore too and I think I’m right. He definitely needs some time to adjust and mature physically.

He looks like a baby giraffe out there. He will catch up quickly, though.

Against a very weak schedule. Did not play in any SEC games.

So we're just going to go ahead and assume he's made no improvement since his last full season 2 years ago and having better than historically bad BA is an impossible task? And that's ignoring that he has much better hitting coaches now than he did under Paul

A career .157 guy jumping to .240 would be a very large & unlikely jump.

A "career .157" guy had a COVID season and was hurt for 75% of last season. His career numbers are largely based off 120 ABs in 1 season 2 years ago. But, other players of note who had monumental jumps include:

Kramer Robertson
2014 .200
2015 .232
2016 .324

Andrew Stevenson
2013 .193
2014 .393

Brad Cresee
1997 .221
1998 .323

Cedrick Harris
1999 .245
2000 .370

Clay Harris
2002 .211
2003 .332

Jared Foster
2012 .218
2013 .359

Gavin Dugas
2019 .186
2020 .286
2021 .295

I'm not saying he will or won't hit .240 this year, but saying that's impossible because he was awful 2 years ago is ridiculous.

He's thin and will add weight but the tools are already good. He's fast, strong arm and has some power in his bat.

It's more the speed of the game that he is adjusting to. I just feel his game will progress quickly not slowly.

I like that you used 7 examples of people who started as significantly better hitter improving.

I also Think at a specialized position like Catcher you will get guys who have D1 level defense who would never sniff a roster if they were an outfielder.

It's all relative because no one is expecting him to bat .300 either.

Well, no shite. Ty Ross hit .223, .292, and .217 but was a great defensive catcher so it wasn't a big deal. There aren't a lot of Micah Gibbs out there who can do both well. We had great offense from McManus (for a catcher) last year but he probably cost us more runs than he was worth as a hitter.

That’s dumb. You’re comparing 7 players who showed significant year by year progress to a guy who’s just bad at hitting.l and saying “we’ll no one expected Brad Cresse to hit .300”

What are you talking about? Brad Cresse his like .411 in high school and was a huge prospect

He hit. 292 playing in the SEC. You don’t think he could have hit at a small school for a higher average?

Milazzo can’t fricking hit.

He bats .220 when we’re playing fricking Maine and Southern. I dont Think he could hit .292 in the SWAC

If Milazzo could have a Ty Ross year that would be HUGE.

The WAC actually has some legit arms.

I don’t think he’d hit .300 in the MEAC. But he’s still currently the best receiver on the team and the best option for Fridays with Skenes pitching.

I actually Meant SWAC but you replied before the edit.

Honestly, nothing Johnson has said makes me think Neal can’t catch Skenes. We’ll see both but I don’t think Milazzo will get close to the majority of AB.

Ready to answer my question today? How many scrimmages have you made it out to so far?
