Someone needs to explain “throwing off”! The term makes absolutely no sense!

There’s better terms that can be used. “Throwing off” sounds like a hillbillie way of saying we are walking everyone!

Throwing off the normal rotation, not pitching your ace first. As a team generally throws the best guy in game 1 of a series, “Friday night guy.”

2019 Washington Nationals as an example! Not one single time did I hear the Nats were “throwing off”! They used pitchers completely out of their role in a MLB pitching staff. Again, NOT ONCE have I ever heard of a team “throwing off” until about a week ago on this board! How does a pitcher “throwing off” even begin to get into the English language lexicon. It literally makes no sense!

As far as I can glean, not once besides THIS board have I ever run into the term “throwing off”! Y’all have got to stop with this BS! Let JJ coach our team. If we win, we win, and we’ll all celebrate! If we lose, we lose! Let us cheer as the winners go by!

That’s called going with a guy who not your #1 starter. Again, in the 2019 WS the Nationals pitched their starters out of rotation and used them as closers in at least two games. NOT ONCE did I ever hear “throwing off”! That term is completely against what the English language is, compared what you are using it as!

Pick another term that actually jives with its meaning and I’ll be on board.

In baseball, people like to invent different words and phrases about nearly everything,. Then the copycat people repeat the words and phrases to prove to everyone that they "know baseball" and that they're really cool.
People act like baseball is a zen sport, and that it's too complex for the normal man to understand. It isn't.
Like I posted the other day, the little fella who first coined the "throwing off" phrase has to feel pretty smug this time of year.

“Throwing off” is easier and faster when people know what you’re referring to. The English language is full of idioms - especially in subcultures like sports fandom.
Once they’ve been organically adopted there’s nothing you can do about it.

Bro in here having a whole conversation with himself with each reply being more stupid than the last.
Well done.
Well done.

Throwing off = throwing on short rest
Hope that helps.

What a weird thing to get worked up over.

Thank You! Every time i see that term i start thinking about pitchers walking batters.

How does “swing away” make you feel?

Throwing off only applies when the ace would also be on full rest. The Nationals world series was more of an "all hands on deck" situation

You have to distinguish between not understanding something and about agreeing with something. Those are two difference things. If you still don’t understand the concept, no one can help you. It’s been explained.
I’m don’t agree with “walk-off” for every game winning hit bc rarely are they walking. But I understand it and don’t get so worked up.

How do you live in Vegas and not know what throwing off means? It comes from Spades. When you play last, your partner already has the book won, you don’t have that suit, and rather than using a spade to win the hand you “throw off” and save your spade to win another hand later because your partner already won. It’s saving a winner for later.

At least that’s a batting term.
