As for why can’t both the player and program profit off endorsement agreements - that’s simply one step closer to being a professional athlete.
And allowing players to profit from their likeness is also simply one step closer to being a professional athlete

This will become a way to bring some of the bagmen stuff into the sunshine and manage it. I bet there will be caps and such. Football player get paid for work they do not do all the time. My wife’s job had a few players, doing nothing and getting paid.

If they are making money on their likeness then not every player will make money.
It should be out in a trust fund payable when they leave school

Certain players do sell more tickets. Example:I live in north louisiana and hadn’t been to a basketball game in 10 years. When we signed Ben Simmons, i made a trip to see him play. Could have seen any Johnny Jones team but I chose that one because of him.

I wonder how the morale on a team might be affected if one guy is getting $40K a year and the rest are getting nothing.
besides..how about the Hidden $$$ which will be given under the "buying the image" concept ?
Let's see what the end result is. I am guessing the money $ will have "caps" and be in some "escrow" account type.

We've just had Federal trials concerning shoe companies paying players to go to specific schools. Now the NCAA is making it easier for them to do so. Nike could easily adopt the following policy:
1. The starting quarterback at Oregon will receive an endorsement contract for $100k per year.
2. The starting quarterback at a "Jordan" branded school will receive an endorsement contract for $75k per year.
3. The starting quarterback at a "Nike" branded school in the SEC will receive an endorsement contract for $60k per year.
4. The starting quarterback at a "Nike" branded school in the another P5 conference will receive an endorsement contract for $40k per year.
Nike would not be directly talking to recruits and telling them where to go, but what are the chances the top quarterback in the state of Oregon will go to Oregon St. vs Oregon?

College athletes come and go yearly and yet winning programs maintain their numbers regardless of the imagery/likeness/ abilities of a single star player.
You realize good/star players are what keeps a team relevant, right? If LSU doesn't have all their good players that would probably be able to make money off their likeness such arse, Stingley, Burrow, Chase, Jefferson, Delpit, etc. We wouldn't be winning and profits would go down. You can't say star players don't make winning programs when these are most certainly tied together.

I can hear it now over the loud speaker in the stadium:
"And number 9 from LSU throws a dart to number 1 from LSU in the endzone! Touchdown Tigers!"
Just pay these players and use their likeness so we can all move on.

Huh?
That's the whole point, nobody has so so including the NCAA.
Why would a player put money into a trust to share with other people?
Why don't you put your money into my bank account?

There really is no such thing as professional or amateur, made up terms so others could profit off them.
