re: Some fans forget just how "lucky" Nick Saban has been.

I started to make another thread about this but did ya'll notice all the holding calls last night? Bama does the same thing game after game and none of those type calls are called. The closest game I have seen called agianst them in several year they lost, aTm. And even in that game there was a ton of holding not called. If you had tape of every game they played since 09 I bet there are 8-10 non holding call per game. I know every team holds and a lot are not called but Bama is just rediculous.
I think this adds to the "luck" for Bama.

Agreed - Bama was lucky to win in 09, and yes, injuries are part of the game, but can you imagine if they'd lost their starting QB on the first drive also? Who knows how it might have turned out, but they waltzed into that win.
And last year - can't even talk about it - did NOT deserve that chance - can't ever convince me otherwise.
So while no doubt they are strong, to annoint Saban as the coaching messiah based on their last couple of NCs is a reach. Especially when they, like us and numerous others, have blown games they could have won. Happens to every team, including his.

I am LSU to the core and feel as disgusted as the most ardent LSU supporters on this board due to Nick leaving us for the NFL then coming back to a conference rival but I'll admit this thread is stupid.
In 6 seasons, Saban has amassed 2 undefeated regular seasons at Alabama. No matter how you stack it up or what school you stand coach for that's hard as hell to do.

Name teams who had fewer losses that year. Backed in for sure through fortunate breaks. Shades of another team last year and possibly this one too?

Forgot to say he was lucky LSU does not go for a first down to end the season for him this year.

Fail on 2009. Bama beat the shite out of Texas. Colt McCoy didn't just happen to get injured; Bama was curb-stomping him on every play. I went into that game thinking Bama was better, watched the first two series, and realized it was going to be a blowout. With a big lead, Saban sat on it. If you'd have told him he gets a million bucks for every 10 points of margin Saban would have beat Texas by 40 even with McCoy.

If this is true - and or the record, I think it's not - the other teams are just stupid for not holding more.

Agreed, he is the best. He's just heralded as head and shoulders better than any coach out there, maybe the best coach ever. He's great, but he has never had a team that was right in the top 3 or 4 for the NC run not catch the breaks they needed. Every non NC team he had lost too many games. Lots of people complain about the flawed BCS, Saban has just always been on the right side of those flaws. Fortunately for him (and LSU and Bama) he never got the short end of the stick. FWIW, I'm not a Saban hater, and I hope LSU fans can respect and appreciate him and what he did here, maybe after he's done at Bama.

Uh, do you realize that a freshman quarterback, that had not played more than 10 snaps that year led them back to being down 3 with 3 mins to go?? If colt stays in, do you not think he could have keep that game close?? or maybe even win it?

Every coach including Saban has their share of good fortune. Les has enough good fortune for 10 coaching careers.

good post OP...also would like to add that Bama somehow manages to avoid the good east conference teams on their schedule. Tennessee has been absolute shite since 2007.

LSU fans are Saban-obsessed to Biblical proportions.
I thought that one day it would not be so, but, i do believe that this obsession will last for eternity.

Not so fast...gumps were 12-1 in 2011. They played 13 games that season, not 14. Don't give those lying mfs an SEC title they didn't play in.

Should have posted on the sec rant.
