Not to mention the "luck" Saban has had with injuries and the schedule since he has been at Bama. Bama was pretty thin in Saban's first 3 years there, before his recruiting had a chance to take effect...but he managed to dodge any serious injuries in those years and took advantage of the weak schedule to inflate his record in those years.

In comparing his record to CLM the biggest point that should always be noted is Bama's inherent advantage of having Tenn as their permanent opponent and LSU having Fla in their most recent heyday.

Saban national title teams have caught many breaks

THIS.

The '09 game Colt McCoy gets hurt, they put in a RS Freshman making his first start. "Ok, it's your first start and it's the National Championship game. No pressure."

And we all know about that yellow brick road that took them to the game last year when they shouldn't have been there in the first place.

it should have been an advantage if anything for texas, like when davey went out against tenn in the title game in 01. the backup for texas didn't play too bad from what i remember anyway.

That's not what I was getting at, at all. I was agreeing with the other poster that said Bama got some lucky breaks in their NCs.

They hit him, he gets knocked out of the game. Funny the same thing didn't happen to the backup.

You know what I mean. He hadn't played in a game all that season. So I guess I should've said "is playing in his first collegiate game." Fair enough?

Winning an NC is like winning an Oscar for playing football. All the right people have to vote for you.

Newsflash: Pretty much 99% of teams who have won a championship caught some breaks to do so.

Funny how Saban keeps getting lucky over and over and over.

What's amazing to me is how mad anti-Miles fans get when others support him. The real luck is that we got him when Saban left. Bottom line...Les is one of the top coaches in the country and our program shows it. You can count on one hand the men that would have his success against the competition he faces every season.

LSU wins in spite of Miles coaching ability, he's just gotten lucky.
Lucky Les is not, but for one I am tired of watching LSU, game after game and opponent after opponent get by with just a win. Do I think we should win by 35 every week, hell no, but its time for Les to quit playing to the level of the opponent and start making the opponent play to LSU's talent level. I consider Miles to be a good coach but not an elite coach because of the play.

I know, those first 13 games last year were really brutal, watching Les' team play down to their opponents...

Every team has games like that. Funny how those opponents are so beneath LSU and we play down to them, unless we want to use them to tout the strength and parody of the SEC...

Its funny how we were lucky in 07, but yet we still had to win our conference in 07 and 11 to go to nola. Bama got to sit at home, they backed into the championship game.

82 wins isnt elite? let me guess the players are all nfl ready from day 1 and needed zero coaching.

82, 100 300, I could give a rats arse about the amount of wins, He should have 82 give or take a few, but to continuously play down to the talent level instead of making other play to your level is the difference in being elite vs good.
