after being turned down by several of his top choices. I'm sure Chavis got more than a couple of calls from better coaches than Steele, who were being considered by Les for the job. They would be stupid if they didn't.
Yeah.
No great DC at an established program was coming to LSU under the conditions of basically working year to year.
They wanted guaranteed money/years.

Does this mean Les chose the worst option?
It means the other options didn't want to work with Miles

You sure? I say they didn't want to work for the clowns that are in charge. This whole chavis thing is showing you Miles isn't the issue. Miles may not be respected by the funny talking idiots of this fanbases, but he's respected by other coaches.

I don't think that's what happened.
What happened was that MIles wanted to keep Raymond and bring in Orgeron. And, he wanted the DC to coach LBs.
DCs generally want to bring in some position coaches. That wasn't really on the table...which meant that Miles was going to pick from a small group of coaches willing to accept the conditions.

Ex-defensive line coach Brick Haley was on the list of candidates to replace Chavis, and Haley and Miles conducted “in-person discussions” about the job, documents say. Haley left the program for the D-line job at Texas.
This is proof that Miles is in over his head. Haley was a terrible coach and towards the end he didn't deliver as a recruited either. Wow.

When you leave the defense on the field for the whole game it doesn't matter who the DC is.

I like most of the list more than Steele

Where's the AD's blame in this. Not only run Chavisoff in December let him go to a west rival. If u were writing a blue print on how to bring down the LSU football program behind closed doors you'd be close to this agenda. Disrupt recruiting and the staff late in the year and hand A&m a guy that knows your program
Inside and out. then the following year leak out the head coach is going to be terminated while he had at the time the #1 recruiting class in he entire country and finally had a stud out of state QB committed. And then be so slimy to leak the name of the replacement as well.
But, Back to the list a head coach has to hire not only the resume but the chemistry. You can't just hire someone because he's a good defensive guy or once was. Miles is the CEO he as to hire the "right" guy for him as wel as the team. Trust chemistry, understanding recruiting in this part of the country and what that involves etc. A lot of these guys on this list aren't going to be on the road away from their families that much. It's a grind. They aren't ever going to bleed P&G. There's alot that goes into hiring a coordinator for your football program. But what has to be at near the top is the recruiting piece and beating Alabama is near the top as well. He also was under the gun to get someone hired like yesterday. u can't be like Texas or the great USCw and have several people turn u down publicly and end up with a Charlie Strongor Steve Sarkisian. Look around and compare YOUR head coach, his teams and his decisions to the rest of them, apples to apples. It's not an easy job. Who's been consistent in this league for more than 4 years or until their star QB left?

NDs first drive was 8 minutes. Please. That is not on the offense.

Lol at all the mouth breathers in this thread that think that list was knocking down the door begging to come to BR but Miles just chose Steele over their pleas.
Dear God I wonder how most of the mongoloids on this forum remember to breathe

Maybe last year the admins knew they wanted to start looking for another coach, and that's why they didn't want to give chavis a guaranteed contract.

This is exactly what I think happened, though unsure of who was pulling the strings behind this. Add the Chavis mess into all this, and that's how you end up hiring a LB coach as your DC.

It only proves, none of these guys wanted to actually come here and be one of the highest paid DCs in the country.
Good luck finding a head coach when the time comes.

It amazes me the extent some of you will go to blame Alleva for anything.

So it's Alleva's fault Chavis went to a rival school? Is it Skip Bertman's fault that Saban went to a west rival?
Grown men are allowed to make their own decisions. Chavis made his. Alleva didn't push him out of the door. Chavis was whining and asking for things that no one else gets. frick him for handling all of this like a bitch.
