I wonder how many top tier recruits we lost after that hideous performance last night

I don't know if Chip would do great at LSU but he's a great college coach and there's no reason his offense wouldn't work in the SEC, esp when you look at SEC defenses lately. They haven't been that stout outside of Bama.
I don't have a problem with Chip Kelly. But you're wanting to get rid of the 2nd winningest coach in the history of our program for someone who has had virtually no success vs SEC teams.

But would you agree that a LOT is riding on whether we land a handful of elite recruits this year?
Without a doubt. As it does every year.

Until Lsu learns how to tackle, don't expect to win big games. Last night was the worst defense I can remember in a long time. Also the offense line sucked!!! I felt sorry for Mett from the 3rd.quarter on! I hate to say it, but I THINK THE PROGRAM IS IN DECLINE. Mett had no time to find the open receiver.
Also if Mills is the best corner we have we are in big trouble.

I thought for several years that a vein in the midget's forehead would rupture or he'd stroke out, but that isn't what I saw last night. He's got a firm grip on Lesticle's testicles and he knows it. The only real thorn in his side is pulled, and he's going to keep beating LSU with Louisiana kids lining up in crimson uniforms.

To me Miles puts LSU fans in a difficult spot. On the one hand, he has won A LOT of football games at LSU. 10 win seasons have become the rule, not the exception. On the other hand, outside of 2011 (which clearly looks like an anomaly) there hasn't been one season where he hasn't lost at least 2 games. Part of me believes that this program is in a position that with the right guy, it could be every bit as dominant as Alabama has been. However, the grass isn't always greener on the otherside (ask Tenn. how things have been since they got tired of Fulmer's "medocrity")
If you do let him go (and I don't think LSU's AD is even close to that point now), you better be damn certain the guy you want is A) going to be an elite coach and B) has already confrimed he will come to LSU. I don't think LSU is in a decline (yet), but get rid of Miles without a plan as to who you're going to bring in after him, and welcome back to 1995

Defense sucks it's on Chavis he can't recruit worth a frick. Mett misses a wide open Dixon for TD to get the score to 31 - 24 late in th e 4th. Mett is not as good as we thought he would be. He improved but still focues on two receivers. The game was lost on Defense and it is all on coaches who brought those players in they aren't as good as what LSU had in the past; period. Get used to hit unitl Miles is gone that is what we are stuck with, he will not get rid of Chavis, and LSU is no longer the hot chick that recruits want to date.

Nah, I'm not one of those calling for a coaching change.

2011 Les Miles 13-1 (8-0) BCS Title Game 2
2012 Les Miles 10-3 (6-2) Chick-fil-A Bowl
Such a terrible fall that nick Saban couldn't even do what miles did the last 3 years. Saban only had 3 seasons were he lost fewer than 4 games Miles has 6. One in which Saban lost fewer than 3 games Miles has 5.
Not to mention everyone saying that Miles must have done all of this with Sabans players, please. Nick Saban in his last year was 9-3 Les has a better record for the three years following Saban leaving and won a national title with them.
There are plenty of programs that would trade for LSUs position right now so saying that LSU is falling back to mediocrity is ludicrous. This team is a couple of plays from being a one loss team in the top 5 but we are back to mediocrity.
And finally get your heads out of your asses. College football is just what it is college football. A bunch of kids who are 18-21. Y'all show more disrespect to these guys than they deserve. They put their hearts out every week but you guys show no appreciation.

3-5 losses every season and I'm not seeing recruiting being a home run in the near future

Our foundation is cracked, the state recruiting boarders are now open. Nicky had a vision and built state of the art faculties. Alabama is steadily building and so is other top programs. Watch miles drive his car in the interview, that's the way he runs this program and coaches games, clueless!! He also has a different philosophy he plays to win. I know that's what all coaches do right? No some coaches play to get better and dominate. They teach winning is a bye product of doing things the right way all the time. Consistent, you don't get to high and to low because it not were your fucas is.

most want better performances, management, discipline and preparation which you obviously know nothing about. oh and for miles to stop losing games he should win year in and year out on a regular basis. i think most would be fine with a sec title every 3 years.

This fanbase really really needs to let go of this infatuation with Nick Saban. He is never coming back and there is no one else out there better than him. We do however have the one man who has consistently recruited the horses necessary to be a threat.
The OP makes great points, BUT, this point you make here is also great, especially the second and third sentences.
IMHO, history will record Nick Saban as the greatest college football coach of all time. Coach Miles has proved that he can be a threat to win a game against Bama, as years go by. And, finally, Saban is never coming back to coach LSU football.
So, I'm really torn this morning, because, I don't know that LSU can do better than Coach Miles.

At this moment, maybe not. Back in 2005, yes.

Forget that. That will never happen with LSU football under this coaching administration.
But, I don't know that LSU has the capability to find a better head football coach. In fact, I doubt it.
LSU is amateur football, and, it is obvious that this is so, at times, during most games.

LSU will continue to be undisiplined, will continue to make critical mistakes, will continue to underperform and will continue to lack the mental toughness necessary to soldier on and ALL of that is coaching. It was all laid bare on 1/9/12 and LSU has never recovered.
But but but he is a players coach and the players love him.

Aside from the usual suspects of Miles defenders/sunshine pumpers, I have yet to see someone adequately refute my initial premise that with the exception of the 2011 "lightning in a bottle" season (and we know how that one ended) SINCE THE 2007 NC, LSU has been an average at best team, with seasons akin to the mediocre "glory days."
