that means he finished 3-4 and loed SD on the game winning drive (FG).

He did that a few times for LSU. Congrats to JL.

It probably wasn't enough to make the team. They will keep him on their practice squad.

Somebody who knows something about the NFL help me out here.... don't they need three QB's on their team? What the difference in being 3rd string and being on the practice squad, as far as salary, benefits, etc?

Really, I have no clue about this and really have no interest in the NFL but for the fortunes of former LSU players.

I don't think I'm that "somebody" but just to furthre the discussion:

My guess is SD will keep two QB's on their active roster (Rivers & TBD but likely Whitehurst) and a third on their practice squad (likely JL).

I think there are 5 days after an NFL team declares their active roster that other teams can pick-up those who didn't make the active roster.

I get the impression that SD would really like to keep JL in their org'n and will probably take a risk that another team won't pick him up in that 5-day window.

Someone more familiar, please clarify and TIA.

JL was moving whatever string offense pretty well
He does throw off the back foot and looks like he's avoiding the hit, but the throws get there

Gates was pumping him up and so was Dan Fouts calling the game

He's also rocking the Gasol Neck Beard lol

Didn't verify this but another poster in another thread stated that JL was 2-8 at one point. If so, that means he finished 3-4 and loed SD on the game winning drive (FG).

Roughing the passer did keep the last drive alive or he may have finished 3-10 according to the play-by-play chart. But he did subsequently complete two passes so kudos still in order.

I will say it. Good thing we did not put him in during the Bama game because that situation would have really been way over his ability.

I know, let it go...could not help myself.

If he were to make the final 53 man roster, he would get the league minimum of $375,000. He would also start his pension clock, benefits, etc.

If he's on the practice squad he gets paid $5700 a week. If he stays all 17 weeks, that's $96,900 for the year. However he's subject to being released anytime they need to make room on the 53 roster, so there's a risk there. Also his pension clock doesn't start and he doesn't have the same benefits.

Another poorly used, underused LSU athlete making good in the NFL. When I think of how bad LSU uses their football players under Miles I get really upset. You folks on here will argue against it, but the truth is in the NFL at how many solid players are on NFL teams that were hardly used at LSU or misused! Russell Shepard will be the next one, radio gurus keep sayin that he hasn't done a thing in his LSU career and that this is his make or break year when that is the farthest thing from the truth!!

Way over his ability in the Bama game? Yeah the other full time qb that had 88 yards combined the last 2 games of the year, lot of ability there.

If JJ is as bad at finding the remote control as he was at finding receivers, he may not be watching.

If you keep trying to diminish what he has done, you can have him down to no completions in short order. Keep trying, you are getting there.

You know, Florida fans used to great joy laughing at Peyton Manning because he had "happy feet" inferring that Manning was afraid to get hit. (and no, I'm not comparing JL to Manning)

I'm just sick of candy asses on this forum insinuating that is a scared of getting hit. You don't know that anymore than the dumbasses at UF labeling Peyton.

Manning and Lee's footwork are not even close to being the same. Manning always chopped his feet but would still step into the throw.

But still you DID compare manning and jlee... Lee did great for us but there are a handful of fundamentals he does poorly AND he has been coached up for 8 years plus!

He will never play on sundays, i.e. if he starts bet the house on the opposing team.
