I think Jay views game 1 of a regional as the toughest game because its a new season with a little bit of pressure for the players. Takes some awhile to ease in. Thats why he goes that way. With that said, Jump and Holman arent too different, but jump has been about the 3rd or 4th best starter in the country over the last 5-6 weeks. So i expect him to go game 1. Holman wouldnt floor me if he wants to save Jump for UNC’s lefties and Holman has the better pickoff move against Wofford. Also think coming back on short rest monday factors in. I think Jump gives you a better shot of making that happen on the real short turnaround

This is why we have to consider starting Ack in game 1. Wofford played a terrible schedule. They look like a 4-seed. I’m all for getting the first win, but we need to win the regional and I think we have pitchers, other and Jump and Holman, that can get us a win vs Wofford.

I can't imagine any scenario, pitching off or matchups, that would make Jay want to change what's been working since the second half of SEC play.

Game 1: Jump
Game 2: Holman
Game 3: Everyone else

I don't agree.

I think he just doesn't want to take any risk up front. He'd prefer to try and win a game with a short staff later.

Not only will Jay pitch Jump and Holman because you continue what you’ve been doing.

Tulane has an awful record and we still threw skenes.

You also throw jump or Holman game 1 so that way if you get to the if necessary game they can start the game and do their “30-45” pitch bullpen in the game on Monday.

UNC scoring 11.2 R/G and going 9-1 on Sundays might be exactly the scenario that causes Johnson to think hard about changing things up. I don’t think he will, and it would be a gamble if he did, but I think it might be the only real chance to beat UNC twice.

Jay will not pitch off in a regional. He will go with the workhorse in game 1 and get the most out of him to save the bullpen. In 2022, he pitched Hilliard in game 1 vs Kennesaw St. It didn't work. He gave up 5 runs in 2 2/3 IP and LSU used 3 relievers. LSU lost games 3 & 4 of that regional as bullpen pieces (Hilliard also) made multiple appearances. In 2023, he pitched Skenes and Paul went all 9 with 124 pitches and saved the pen. LSU swept that regional at 3-0. You will see Jump or Holman against Wofford. Hopefully LSU can get through that game without using Herring and be set up nicely for games 2 & 3.

The whole left vs right match up is so overrated it’s not even funny. These guys are so good it doesn’t matter which side the balls comes in

I completely disagree with this. There are certain players that struggle mightily against same handed pitching. Go look at MLB... more and more teams build their squads to platoon for that very reason. It's also why college teams change pitching so much late in games oftentimes. I don't recall the numbers or know where to get them, but I know Larson has some major splits where he struggles big time against LHP.

That being said, I like the point brought up before where having a lefty on the mound really can help control a running game. Plus, Jay has shown in the most solid evidence possible that he will stick with his normal rotation last year when he started Skenes vs Tulane(which I still disagree with). But I'm not advocating for a switch-up here. I like the idea of sticking with what's been working and giving ourselves the best shot at starting the regional 1-0 with the chance to have Holman on the mound vs UNC next.
