At the point LSU and Houston would be bidding the money would almost be immaterial. The question would be wether Herman would want to compete in somewhat anonymity against the likes of Memphis, UConn, and Cincinnati, or the spotlight of Alabama, Florida, Auburn, etc. If you are a competitor and want to compete against the best, the choice is easy

LSU can't win a bidding war with Texas.

I got a text from a coach buddy in Tulsa, he said he talked to Herman a while back this summer, "he wants the Texas job"

He's also a Texas homer so he probably hopes that happens..

He said he would put out feelers...he knows a lot of coaches around the country

I posted this in another thread, but it was leaked this week that Lynn Swann and the USC BOD reached out to Herman's agent this past week. And there is interest.

Regardless, this is going to be a long process for all teams that could pursue Herman. He is in a season where they could be playing for a NC.

Just a messenger from another fan base.

do people really think that teams are going to pay a coach 10,15,20 million a year?

Hints why we have an interim HC. We want to make the best decision for these kids. We just fired the man they LOVE and now it's Alleva's time to shine just like it was Miles last year. It's put up or shut up time for him also imo. Exactly as the last poster said Houston isn't LSU, never will be and that's the way it is. It's not up to Houston it's up to Herman which is a smart man and I'm sure picked Houston knowing what he could do to get the next big offer. He wouldn't sustain the competition from A&M, LSU, Texas they will hit him hard and no way they can keep up. Even if we get a decent coach Herman has to know he will compete with the coach for recruits and if it's a better coach then Miles they might get the recruits he wants. Why not come where it would be easier for him and he could really just focus on the game. Lose a game and still make a championship bc where he's at now he needs to be perfect in order to even get a mention. GT

I don't Herman leaving Houston anytime soon. I love the guy, but I think he needs more sustained success before people start jumping on the bandwagon. He's a great coach but he's also in the perfect situation. I realize LSU needs to strike while the iron is hot, but to me he seems like a coach that would not thrive as a head coach in the SEC. He made some really bad offensive calls under pressure at tOSU during tight games. I could be way off base, but that's my gut.

LSU was going to pay damn near 30 million to get Jimbo out of FSU last season and your boy doesn't think LSU can outbid Houston?

Has more to do with if LSU wants to win, not capability. Jimbo is a NC winning coach, you are buying a known quantity.

If some Houston oil + real estate guy decides to bankroll the Herman express, does LSU want to pay that much for a 3rd year coach? Houston may win by LSU not wanting to play

The only ones LSU couldn't win a bidding war with is

Alabama
Texas
Notre Dame

Everyone else we would be on par with money wise

Oh, and I love the idea that billionaire business people are just going to suddenly pay WAY above market rates just because it is "fun 12 weekends a year"

I have no doubt they will pay well. But, they aren't just saying "to spite you, I'll pay more than I have to to get a successful coach here"

Silliness. There have been a number of successful coaches at UH. ALL have left so far for better jobs.

Exactly. For instance, this is why Nick Saban isn't in year 3 of his 10 year, 500 million dollar contract at Texas.
