You are talking about bunting for a hit. People are talking about sacrifices in this thread. The only two guys with the speed to bunt for hits in LSU’s lineup are Crews and Morgan. They aren’t exactly the guys that you want bunting. You want them swinging away not bunting.

In that comment, yes, overall, no. If we're down 1 run in the 7th/8th/9th with a man on 3rd and no outs, I don't understand the aversion to bunting. We've had an aversion to it all year. More than Crews and Morgan could be taught to lay a bunt down and scoot down the line. I could donate chickens. Gotta be quick to catch a chicken.

While not popular with the casual fans, you are 100% correct that a team should be able to effectively move runners into scoring position with the bunt. Especially when you don’t even have base stealing as part of our offensive approach, at all. We will not win a NC with gorilla ball only. Dominant pitchers will limit your runs. Maybe I’m wrong, but let’s revisit in a few weeks.

Exactly my point, thank you.

Other hitters like Thompson, Dugas, Morgan can all learn to be good at both. They could be excellent base runners as well. It takes in game experience to do that. Prepare a team for it when it is required. Just have to learn…

If Beloso could bunt down the third base line he’d get a hit every at bat until the shift was discontinued.

Small ball

Playing small ball is an archaic practice that has been proven to have a negative EV time and time again.

The best run scoring major league teams bunt once every 3-5 games. LSU is right around every 5 games. It’s not a viable strategy to consistently score runs

Over the course of a season no bunting generates more runs, which equates to more wins. That of course means a sample size of 163 games. When you get to the last game of and last few inning of an elimination game sometimes you need to play for 1 or 2 runs. Which many times means stealing, hit and run, bunting. It’s still an important part of the game. Especially in the post season.

Thanks 0, I'll jot this down in my handy dandy notebook.

Bunting is almost alway the wrong move. In the 8th or 9th tied or down a run with 0 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd. Is about the only time you bunt

Cool. You people are expecting positive results 100% of the time. That's not how baseball works. Dugas has hit well all season with RISP. Thompson has come up clutch plenty. You don't throw that away because of a few failed attempts.

Thank you for reminding me that you’ll fail over half the time in baseball as a hitter.

You clearly didn’t read my post. The team and them specifically aren’t even being productive when they do get out. Strikeouts have never and will never be productive and that people don’t care about them now is mind blowing. Bloop pop ups to second base is not a productive out.

I’m not advocating for bunting all the time, and not necessarily in this instance either. But there needs to be more emphasis on team at bats that move runners over and/or score runs.

Carl, I'm gonna be honest with you right now, I am not Cold Turkey right now at all and haven't been for the majority of the day 8th and 9th mostly with no or one out, though. Scratching runs across with west coast small ball worked pretty damn well for UCLA a few years back.

False! False! False! I just saw a thread on here today that showed a high school team winning the state championship on a walkoff strikeout.

I agree. If they shift then bunt.

I am not big on bunting a runner from 1st to 2nd but i agree with bunting if you have runners on 1st and 2nd and 0 outs.
