Haven't heard anyone say this since saban said this when becoming our coach. Hope Will wade will wake up our giant in bball. Similar feel, thoughts?

I for one think that there is a ton of potential for the Lsu basketball program, if yu get the right guy to lead the charge.Hopefully Wade is that guy.

LSU basketball is not the sleeping giant that football was in 1999. But, it has a much higher ceiling than what we've been seeing the last 10 years for sure.

Wasn't it Morris Watts that told Saban we were a sleeping giant?

If Wade can get some momentum in the initial year or two and get some excitement from our fan base, then I think our basketball program will attract talented recruits and be much more consistent.

I think it was Marshall's coach at the time who made that statement, can't remember his name

If we locked down Louisiana, we'd have a very good roster. We'd probably have to look elsewhere for a big man, but the rest we'd be stacked.

State Rank (24/7), school, size, position, stars

2017:
#1 - Josh Anderson - WKU - 6'4" SG 4*

2016:
#1 - Dejon Jarreau - UMass - 6'3" CG 4*
#2 - Robert Williams - ATM - 6'8" PF 4*
#3 - Mark Vital - Baylor - 6'6 SF 4*
#4 - Lamar Peters - MSU - 6'0" PG 4*

2015:
#2 - Jacob Evans - Cinci - 6'5" SG 4*

2014:
#1 - Dominic Magee - Memphis - 6'3" PG 4*
#2 - Jordan Cornish - UNLV - 6'6" SG 3*
#3 - James Thompson - USCe - 6'8" SF 3*

2013:
#2 - Damian Jones - Vandy - 6'9" PF 4*

(#1 was Jarrell Martin and #3 was Bridgewater)

2012:
#1 - Rico Gathers - Baylor - 6'7" PF 4*
#2 - Javan Felix - Texas - 5'10" PG 4*

And I could keep going...DJ Augustine, Greg Monroe, Chris Duhon. We have 11 players in the NBA and like 2nd or 3rd most per capita in the country.

Louisiana No. 7 state in the nation in per capita NBA players. And no in state competition of note. Yeah....there's potential.

I don't think he'll be able to do it wearing baggy black pinstripe suites.

Frank Martin has that market cornered.

no.

look at rivals high school guys.
LSU usually has 40 FOOTBALL guys.
Georgia has 50 or 60.
Ohio has 50 or 60.
Illinois has 6 or 10.

Now look at basketball.
LSU is not in the top tier.
Chicago has more than LSU by a lot.

there is no giant asleep in the hoops bayou.

He's right, to bad he didn't get hired a season sooner so he could convince that 7 footer from Chalmette and 4 star SG in BR to stay home along with the Javonte Smart kid. It's just like football, you can't let top talent get away.

Caterpillar has it right. If Wade can recruit Louisiana well, we could become something special.

Are you talking about schools or states?

My only problem with wade is it does seem we are a stepping stone for a "dream job" to him. I feel he is the best hire we could have made and i am very positive on him otherwise.

Yet we have like the 6th most of any state for NBA players on rosters this year and are top 3 in per capita.

And no other big program in state. And Houston and Dallas are 4 hours away,

No excuse.

I'm ok with LSU basketball being a stepping stone. If so it means the coach left it in better shape than it was before and it leaves us some momentum and something to build on.

I think it was Isoruko Yamamoto who used that term.
