Yep. Barth friggin Melius change up’d a bunch of first rounders into strikeouts.
Yep, he and Joey Charron got lots of outs throwing absolute shite, but it worked. They were great college pitchers.

Clark was already at MSU when Bertman came to LSU.

Dellucci was given full ride at Ole Piss. LSU doesn’t give full ones

First, no he wasn’t. No college baseball players were getting full rides anywhere, especially not a freshman with very few offers. Second, he was only offered a spot as a walk-on at LSU. He got more interest as a football player at LSU

Joey charron :vomit:
Watching guys like todd linden strikeout against him was infuriating.
But no, skip didnt coach the 2001 super regional, because he never lost games at lsu

Bertman would not allow a player to pitch and play another position. That was his way and I am not saying that it was wrong, but we lost several players that wanted to do both
“We recruit pitchers to pitch and hitters to hit”. Remember it clear as day.

Yes, in 2001. Those were the last games Skip coached before retiring

Not from Houma...I went to Northeast. I know he wasn’t offered, my point is he was a big miss. I have talked with Kenny about this and he would have been a 50/50 to go to LSU. Smoke made him feel like he was must have on his team. And he was the ace of the northeast staff even though Ben Sheets was on the team as well.

Tulane had the better team that year.
I think TU had 3-4 two way players that year and that Kaplan kid in CF?

And Tulane had a shortstop who was drafted in the 7th round by the NY Yankees three days after that super-regional ended who went 8 for 15 (.533), scored 8 runs, had 4 RBI, 5 stolen bases and 0 strike outs in the 3 game super-regional by the name of Andy Cannizaro.

I wonder what the list would look like of players that came to LSU because of Skip and Smoke?
