Skenes should sit today. His future is more important than 1 game.

Lsu needs to do right by him. 3 days rest historically comes with a 23% injury rate, while 4 days it drastically lowers at 2% injury rate, historically, respectively.
Lsu has already achieved more than we thought they would as they beat wake. We are winners already. Don’t damage this future superstar.

If you asked Skenes if he wanted to sit this one out or compete for a National Championship, what do you think his honest answer would be, especially given his comments prior and desire to win?

We all know the answer to that already. He’s a competitor and he wants to compete.

Or, maybe, ask Skenes if he wants to pitch. I’d be willing to bet he’s not gonna let anybody else start on the bump.

You play to win championships, not pitch for a bottom of the barrel team for the next few years.

GFY

Do you realize Skenes isn’t one of those kids who has been pitching since little league? He doesn’t have the miles on his body that most others have. He’s fine he will pitch.

Skenes is the most well oiled human machine I’ve ever seen in sports history. 4 days rest is actually all he needs to start with a healthy perspective. With that said we have medical trainers on staff to keep up with anything that could hurt his arm. He’s in good hands.

In 1974 Nolan Ryan purportedly threw 235 pitches in a game against the Red Sox. He would start another game 3 days later, pitching 6 scoreless innings.

Would you say the same if it were the World Series and he’s up for free agency with the chance to sign a lucrative deal?

“If it’s ok with you Coach, I need to sit this one out. I’ve got free agency coming up and getting injured would ruin my prospects.”

I bet not.

What would you have said if Joe Burrow decided to sit out the CFP after winning the Heisman for the same reason?

This board would have come unglued.

There’s also no guarantee that Skenes will ever get to pitch to win a championship again. It’s hard to make the playoffs in MLB let alone win the whole thing.

At the end of the day, though, it’s up to Skenes.
