A few years ago Mike Detillier told me that Payton got butt hurt about a question a local reporter asked about a former LSU player and the lack of playing time he was getting

It was reporters asking how much Skyler Green was gonna play, which was a dumb question.

Ever since then Payton had a preference against having LSU players on the rosters so that he wouldn't have to deal with those kinds of questions

Payton blows off questions all the time, he's not changing his draft strategy to avoid stupid questions.

Trai Turner - 2014, Round 3, Pick 92

Saints didn't have a 3rd round pick that year

Donte Jackson - 2018, Round 2, Pick 55

Saints didn't have a 2nd round pick that year.

Jalen Collins - 2015, Round 2, Pick 42

Saints picked 44. Taken before our draft.

Debo Jones - 2016, Round 2, Pick 52

Saints drafted Michael Thomas at 47. Can't hate that.

Duke Riley - 2017, Round 3, Pick 75

Saints drafted Alvin Kamara at 67. Again, can't hate.

Russell Gage - 2018, Round 6, Pick 194

Saints drafted Kamrin Moore at 189.

Kwon Alexander - 2015, Round 4, Pick 124

Saints did not have a 4th round pick that year.

Kendell Beckwith - 2017, Round 3, Pick 107

Saints drafted Alex Anzalone at 76 in 3rd round. Worked out for us.

Devin White - 2019, Round 1, Pick 5

Saints had no chance to draft him

So after looking at this, do we really pass on LSU players? And almost all the players we drafted are better than the LSU players that was available.

When all those teams start beating the Saints with any regularity, then we'll worry about this shite.

NB4 Saints fans butthurt that those players had the audacity to be drafted by another team.

Not sure I get this. The saints absolutely fricked up passing on Jarvis Landry.

They did lose to the bucs and Panthers this season. And the bucs and falcons last season.

Just a thought but maybe he avoids LSU players to avoid issues with them being close to home and within reach of their old lives that can be a distraction or danger. Bring a guy in from say OSU and he will run with other players and not guys from the block?

TV ratings are significantly higher for the Saints games than than they are for LSU games. Tiger Stadium is empty by halftime. How exactly is LSU more popular than the Saints statewide? Please provide a link.

Not only that, but they traded up in the 1st round to get Brandin Cooks, when they could have gotten Jason Verret with their original pick and Jarvis later.

This! It’s almost entirely coincidental. Loomis even said as much a year or so ago. The coaches have had a great relationship with the LSU staff even back when Miles was coach. They’ve had interest in multiple Saints players. But, knowing and understanding how the Saints draft board “cloud” works, it’s simply how the cards fall.

Yes. Definitely statewide. I live in metro New Orleans. I love both teams and actually been a Saints fan longer, but my passion for LSU is greater. One of my uncles (who never went to college) said it best: "the Saints could up and move after the current lease expires; LSU will be there forever."

I have always been of the mindset that you pull for a pro team because of where you live, but you pull for a college team because of who you are. College allegiances in the south are truly about blood.

He doesn’t draft LSU (and for a while it seemed he went after smaller program guys) players because he wants to be seen as the smartest guy in the room and often times goes after smaller school diamond in the rough type guys.

Notice since Ireland was brought in that stupid shot has stopped

Oddly enough, I’m from north Louisiana and graduated from LSU; however, my passion for the New Orleans Saints is much greater than LSU.

I’m certainly not denying the fact that LSU is more popular than the Saints though.

Payton has always been bitter that LSU is more popular than the Saints statewide.

Considering Payton never really wanted this hobo-kin job and does seam to prefer big ten players, I think he believes the south is inferior for talent. Not like "THE ohio state"

that being said, i think we're doing ok
