We have had plenty of Tyrann Mathieu in the NFL articles, but this one on Brockers should give ranters some perspective on why the 2011 Defense should go down as one of the best ever at LSU and why it will also be very difficult to emulate.

Great link. Brockers is one of a handful of guys we haven't come close to replacing over the last couple of years. He was a terror on the inside. He serves as a reminder that the "next guy up" mantra, while nice, is often just wishful thinking.

I don't think people realized how vital he was to that 2011 defense. I know I sure as hell didn't realize it until after he left.

He didnt get very many accolades (like Glenn Dorsey) but I dare anyone to say he wasn't the best all around defensive linemen to come out of LSU in the last decade.

the loss of him, Tyrann and Brooks, who played an understated but very important role, left holes we still have not filled. the Miles/Chavis haters are incapable of understanding how difficult it is for the staff to build continuity and measured progress in a program that attracts and who's roster is largely comprised of kids whose committment to their families financial well being far outweighs their obligations to LSU. bama has, as we speak, five 5thyr seniors and their current record is indicative of that luxury. how they do it is open to debate but it is the world we live in and we have to deal with it.

Brooks. Good one. What we do for a guy like that in this secondary?
I think the constant rollover of starters due to the NFL Draft is something that bears watching over the next few years. Miles is confronting reality when he sells guys on the notion of three-and-done, but it can work against you as well.

Brockers will be the best DT we have sent to the NFL in the past 20 years when its all said and done.

I remember him as a redshirt freshman making a 4th year guy (Will Blackwell) cry mercy in the big cat.
Guy had unbelievable lower body strength. We need another guy with power like that in the worst way right now.

Sadly with the current NFL CBA, it makes no sense for him to return unless he is confident of somehow transforming into a top 10 draft pick.

While I agree that the Freak has been a let down so far, the NFL doesnt draft players based on their college production. They draft players on potential. And Anthony Johnson has loads of it. He will still be a late 1st-early 2nd rounder this year, based on talent alone and regardless of his production.

Lacoutre will be that guy to be a animal. Like brockers he played end and grew into a DT. Hell brocker was tightend in high school.

i think lacouture will be the best out of all the DL Recruited last year...i think he will be really good...i still wish Maclin would have been left alone at LB 3 years ago

And Brandon Taylor, one of the most underrated and unheralded guys we've had.....dude was an absolute beast against the run his senior year

All of the evidence is not yet in, but when all is said and done, I think we will look back and conclude that the 2011 LSU squad was more talented than the 2011 Bama squad, making the NCG result even more of an abomination. I'll allow careers to continue developing before I make a definitive statement.

If he comes back he could definitely become a top 10 pick. Don't know what it is, but he looked better in limited action last year. Maybe some of it has to do with the ends playing pretty terrible (looking at you Rasco).

It is so frustrating when the over-the-top positigers go off like this past offseason about how the defense will be better and this person & that person will be a beast and better than the person they played behind.
You can't even question their predictions, lest you're labeled a negatiger.
Reality is not a strong suit of some.
