Should NCAA require background checks on all potential scholarship athletes?

After reading about Guice and Davis, it's clear the NCAA and participating schools need to do more to protect every college student from becoming victims of violence. As a father of a daughter who recently graduated college, I'm infuriated that those two thugs were allowed to step on campus despite having a long history of doing criminal activity.
I pray for the many young ladies that were traumatized by these thugs and now have to live with that for the rest of their lives. I know LSU is not the only school to allow thugs onto its campus because of their athletic talents, but as a society we should demand more from our universities!
Is winning a stupid/meaningless game worth a child - possibly even your son or daughter - being traumatized for the rest of their life, while coaches, administrators and the NCAA cash in and look the other way?
The sad reality is this boils down to money. Winning at all costs fills the bank accounts of universities and means more money for all involved - except the victims. I hope every victim sues the university and the NCAA and wins millions and millions of dollars and forces strict new rules to protect all students and hold those in positions of authority - coaches, administrators, school presidents, etc. - criminally responsible for failing to do their jobs!
Just remember, the next victim could be your son, daughter, niece, nephew or even you!

and how many of these minors do u actually think have felonies

If they were charged as juveniles then the check would likely be useless. Juvenile records are generally sealed.

I think an issue with that is, are you going to deny a kid the opportunity for a college education because he got in a fight in high school, etc.?
I know Devin White was in some type of legal trouble in high school, and he turned out to be a high character guy at LSU and the NFL.
I think the solution is put all athletes through domestic abuse classes (which they already do) and report all cases if they unfortunately happen.
You just cant stop all evil.

They need to end academic waivers, you would get rid of most behavioral issues with athletes.

Should they do it for all kids admitted into College who get academic scholarships or Tops? This seems quite frankly like a stupid az.... idea and one that clearly is a differential treatment under the Law.

I think it would be more important to teach incoming girls about what to do in these situations, before, during, and after any events

If my daughter asked her friend to fix her up with a date with a known thug/sex abuser, then got drunk and passed out, I would be more concerned with her behavior.
If he carjacked or kidnapped her, that is another story.

I absolutely agree, but it will never happen because it's become too much of money maker. College football has absolutely nothing to do with college, unfortunately.

I figured there would be one DA that had to make about race! Typical Democrat!

The answer to this is “No”. Get off your high horse. Most of the perpetrators of assault probably don’t have a record coming into school anyway. Guys come into school with a record for offenses that are nothing close to rape - drugs, getting in a fight, underage drinking etc. I know I had a few beers and smoked some pot in high school. I still graduated from LSU and didn’t rape anybody.

While I can kinda sorta see the why of what you are saying here, the how is, in agreement with others here, is really dumb. For several reasons.
I will say that evaluation of such things, the why you are after, is part of the recruiters job.
It is a recruiter's job to dig into the recruit a little. And while a background check for almost all violations as a minor won't turn up jack, visiting with a kid (and his parents) will tell you more. So you can get a "feel" for it during the recruitment in many, certainly not all, cases.
Now, will this be a reason to not recruit a kid? In almost all cases- NO. So no matter if it is your background check or finding out some bad things sitting in their living room a kid probably isn't going to be denied that chance.
All you'll get is a hint to be watching, just in case. Even then, you still have to act on it later if it does turn out to be a bad apple that hasn't changed his ways.
As a coach who is committed to getting the best players, not the best citizens, as the system demands of you- you will always be reacting to such bad apples. Nothing you do, or can do, will be preventative.
