I read this article today a friend sent me LINK about how Andy got the MSU job.

It seems Mainieri is holding a major grudge over one recruit from Alabama who said publicly he wanted to play for Andy regardless of where he coached.

Last season MSU had a similar situation when our pitching coach Butch Thompson was hired by Auburn in October of 2015. We had a couple commits change their mind and sign with Auburn. The same thing happened when Nick Mingione left MSU for Kentucky. Cohen understood that recruits had built relationships with the guys who recruited them and was ok with his assistants bettering their careers.

TLDR, I know.

Just blows my mind how Mainieri is acting like a teenaged girl over Andy bettering his career. You can't blame him for what I'm hearing getting a MAJOR pay bump. Any of us would have done the same.

Anyways, good luck this weekend it should be a great series. Looking forward to seeing Poche and Lange battle Rooker and Mangum.

IDK how you read it that way. He definitely said that he was happy for him moving forward but that they had an agreement not to poach recruits. Either way, yall got a good one.

quote:

“When he got the job, I was happy for him. I really was,” Mainieri said. “I thought, ‘What a great opportunity for him.’ I was surprised, but I was happy for him and I wished him well in every game except when he played LSU.”

He also said he hasn't spoken to Andy since last fall.

Our fans and players all absolutely love Andy and think he was the perfect guy for our job.

I dont talk to people who I used to work with either...

Probably nothing to really talk about. No one ever said they were best friends and all of a sudden he just stopped talking to him.

I can see that and maybe I took it the wrong way, but Mainieri seemed to imply he was upset Andy was talking to Cohen before he let him know ahead of time.

Personally I've had meetings and discussions with other employers before telling my boss I was interviewing and might be leaving if I get the job. It's all about bettering your career and doing what's best for your family.

Cannizaro is not LSU's coach any more.

I hope he never beats LSU.

What exactly would they talk about other that what any 2 coaches should not talk with each other about? I can't imagine those 2 have anything in common.

I mean, John Cohen was your baseball coach and now runs your athletic department.

Mainiari likes to throw everyone under the bus to the media....even his ex-coaches.
It's the woman in him.

AC is a heck of a coach, so congrats to MSU. Remember this, he is from Mandeville, La., played for Tulane and is a die hard Tulane fan. Die hards from Tulane hate LSU. He was not going to stay at LSU any longer than he needed. The Tulane - LSU rivalry goes back very deep for many years.

I'd keep an eye on the Tulane coaching job. If it opens, perhaps next year or the year after next and he's offered enough money to return home, then he'll be back at his alma mater.

The fans and players at LSU seemed to love Andy Cannizaro too. I don't think anybody can fault him for taking such a massive step up. The timing of it all sucked, but again, you can't blame AC for taking that job. He would have been stupid not to take it.

CPM can come across like a little bitch at times. It is what it is though. Y'all just keep Andy around for a little while, so we can take him back when CPM retires.

Also, while CPM may be a bitch....your AD is a massive tool as well. So we are even.

With all that being said....I hope we sweep your asses.

I'm not going to argue that, but And might have passed Dan Mullen as the most popular coach on the MSU campus this year. Cohen is a prick everybody knows that even former and current players. Our team will run through the wall for him

But did you lie to your current employer and tell them that you hadnt been talking?

Thats what Andy did. Then when Cohen called to talk to PM about him and mentioned that he and Andy had had several conversations, Paul was a bit "taken aback"...

quote:

“I was happy for Andy. I was like, ‘Wow, John, you’re taking a chance on a guy with only two years of coaching experience,’” Mainieri said recalling the phone conversation. “He was like, ‘Yeah, but I’ve heard you speak so fondly about him and say so many things, it really has made an impression on me.’

“I said, ‘Well, have you even talked to Andy? How do you know he’s the guy you want?’ He said they had had some conversations. Well, I didn’t know he had had some conversations with Andy. I was a little bit taken aback by that.”

Mainieri is happy for him to get a big time job as he did, just a bit sour in the way it happened IMO.

Apparently it was all very sudden when this went down to Mainieri, he had no idea it was going to happen even though it was supposedly already in the works, not that Cohen and Mainieri ever got along, but I bet he thought he would at least say "hey, your guy is a candidate for our job". Not saying he should have, but Mainieri is pretty controlling about these things. Then when he left he supposedly told Mainieri he wouldn't take recruits with him, and the 1 guy flipped. To me it's going to happen, because that's who recruits you sometimes, and you commit to a coach very often, not just a school. To me, it wasn't a big deal, but the fact he said to Mainieri he wouldn't flip recruits and did flip one to me will and probably should leave a sour taste in Mainieri's mouth.

Can't wait for the series and future series. Interested to see how successful Cannizaro will be at MSU. I think if he wins the series this weekend he should be a shoe in for SEC COY. Having to overcome like 8 pitchers being out for the season is just plain ridiculous.

Explain how he's acting like a teenage girl.. he wished him well but was surprised for a myriad of reasons.. he was irritated regarding a recruit but other than that he showed no discontent towards Andy
