11 games into his first season playing first at the collegiate level, I think we should cut him some slack.

Last year was Blake's first year to play 1st base in college and he made 1 error all year, so I would say CPM has reason for concern. All he has to do is catch he rarely has to make a throw, so it is much easier position to field.

and field grounders, which is prob the hardest thing to do as a 1B. As well as feed the pitcher covering the bag.

i dont recall how Edward's errors came about, but it could just be 2 fluke things.

by my recollection Lowery is a middle INF by trade, im not sure his transistion would be much better.

playing 1B has a lot of layers too it. Just about anyone could play the position "OK", but a great first baseman is great because he understands angles, hops, and positioning.

Dean was an OK 1B, he was better than people thought he'd be. He may have ended the season with 1 error, but there were times he missed on some routine short hops and other times he didnt touch them, which would put the error on the other fielders. Not that a converted OF should make those plays, but saying he only had 1 error doesnt tell the whole story.

i thought coach's comment about alex on sunday was a little harsh

Mainieri was probably mad he decided to bunt on the first pitch after the pitcher walked the first two batters and then Edward made him look bad when he pinch hit Slaid.

Agreed, he was a little harsh, but understandable right after the game.

Edward started slow last year too. I think he is just a slow bloomer. We'll see.

1st base shouldnt produce many errors...but he is still trying to get comfortable over there. And he's dug out a number of low throws from Hanover.

What's funny about Nola...he makes so many great plays, you dont notice that his fielding percentage is not really great. I dont believe he's topped .965 at LSU. Now SS and 3B are gonna produce errors more than most positions...Nola is currently .918 and Hanover at .897. But thats only after a dozen games. If the team is in the .975 range by end of year..thats pretty damn good for college.

I would agree...but that wasn't your argument.

more than likely he's getting sick of edward not picking balls in the dirt. he's pretty bad at it.

Comparing Lowery to Blake Dean is like comparing Ben Voogd to Ethan Martin

Alex Edward is struggling and PM needs to give someone else a chance just to see what they can do before UF comes to town.

And if we really want to get technical...one of Nola's errors should have been charged to Edward this past weekend. That would put them both at 3 for the season, we all know how the official scorer can be at times.

Not aware of his statistics, so can't speak to Edwards, but I'm a huge fan of benching anyone on a slump.

Letting them work thru it hurts the team and doesn't work. Time needs to pass, keep hitting in practice till something clicks.
