The shift works more times than it doesn’t. The numbers prove it. People just don’t notice it when it works.

When he gets down 2-0 and they know exactly what is coming, especially with the bases loaded, you have to abandon the shift.

Shift telegraphs where you’re locating pitches. It’s stupid at this level.

The shift works when the pitcher hits his spots.

Shifts are based on percentages of where that particular player hits not pitch location

And you’re trying to take those tendencies and make them as close to an absolute as possible by locating pitches to induce that %.

Both of the pitches were inside and the batter was late and cued it the other way

So cheating on the percentages and leaving a big hole open in that gamble backfired. Another reason you shouldn’t do it,

What do you think a shift is? You’re moving people out of position or “cheating over”.
