None of those people ever saw the freshman seasons of Charles Barkley, Derrick Taylor, Howard Carter, Dominique Wilkins, Sam Bowie, Chris Jackson, and Leonard Mitchell. Regardless of stats, those players were game changers in the league, and two went on to be game changers in the NBA—something Ben Simmons will never be.

You left Shaq's freshmen stats off your list?
Please!
How many on y0ur list made rookie of the year, NBA, or made NBA All defensive team?

If Simmons had a player like CJ on his team, they would have made each other better.

If Simmons played with CJ he never would have gotten the ball.

Go watch LSU v. Marquette that year. Simmons had the ball with a chance to drive to the basket and win it at the buzzer and he passed the ball last second. Didn't know it at the time, but it was a harbinger of things to come that year.

correct. That was the first time I knew that Simmons didn't have any confidence in his offensive abilities, outside of dunks and layups.

Even the no-name TV commentator expressed shock that the presumptive no. 1 overall NBA pick would willingly pass up the game-winner, and he wasn't under any defensive pressure that forced him to pass. He just gave it up.

The real low point was, of course, Oklahoma. National telecast, and Simmons flat-out hid in the second half. Even Dick Vitale, who consistently blows players, was begging Simmons to engage, but he wouldn't.

He knows he doesn't have any offensive game, except layups in transition. College defenses didn't figure that out for a long while, but now NBA teams know it, and Simmons' defender play off him, literally by 15 feet or more. And now they've employ the Hack-a-Ben defense in close games. He's simply no offensive threat, and also can't shoot free throws. It's an utter embarrassment.

Ben Simmons had a bad series... and here comes all of the Tigerdroppings NBA analysts with their "I told you so..." take because they were already butthurt and didn't like the guy anyway because of his single season at LSU.

it wasn't just a bad series -- he won't shoot, especially not in the 4th quarter. He hides and is scared to engage because he can't shoot, and also can't shoot FTs.

This wasn't a one-off bad series - this is who Simmons is. When defenses actually play (like in the playoffs), Simmons is neutered. Sure, during the 82-game regular season when teams aren't playing at full intensity, he gets more transition layups (which is the only way he can score).

This was glaringly obvious to knowledgable basketball fans that paid attention to his game when he was here. Now we're just seeing it exposed under the brightest of lights on the big stage.

STFU…….. he does two things rather well…get a few rebounds and a few assists…. But he proved himself to the world in this series that he hides in crunch time…. All you LSU fans making excuses for him are just idiots.

Nah. Simmons is soft. He's paid like a guy that can lead but when the game is on the line he plays like he's scared. As for the Tigerdroppings NBA analysts, Shaq has their back on this one.

Kid was soft at LSU and he's still soft in the NBA. By soft, I mean not aggressive, scared, timid, lazy, unengaged, etc...whatever you want to call it.

you do realize that basketball isn't rocket science. Knowledgable fans can see what's occurring with their own eyes, as can Shaq and the other analysts (including the TV guys last night who were crushing Simmons).

So just because we're not NBA executives doesn't mean we're wrong about Simmons' problems. It's right there for all to see.

AGREED! Now with Magic, Stephen A., Gary Payton, and others calling on team to trade Simmons now, just brings more attention to what we are all seeing.

I don’t blame Shaq at all. Simmons doesn’t belong in the NBA.

Ben Simmons' antics ruined Coach Jones' career at LSU.

Funny how coaches think he's some great catch, and then he bombs out.

Yeah, we could have been able to witness so many first round losses if not for Simmons.
