I’m sure most have said it but he wasn’t a fit bc he fully didn’t understand this job specifically and the meat grinder if being in the sec.
He proved to be terrible at assembling a staff. He drove off a lot of good ppl in the building that could’ve helped him and were loyal to LSU. His defensive staffs in 22 and 23 were just horrible especially considering he had Corey Raymond and Blake baker when he arrived. He let them go and replaced them with bad coaches.
Polian was his initial recruiting coordinator and the man he had zero experience or ties to coaching and recruiting in the Deep South.
Once he finally fixed the defensive staff, he lost denbrock and the offense cratered under Sloan.
It just didn’t appear he was as ALL IN as he needed to be for this job.

Too prideful to make necessary changes. Was given a false sense of arrogance based on portal success and last years Nuss
But he had all summer to assess and did not. and two early games that shite the bed and did not
Thus season was salvageable potentially with a pulling of Nuss and a change in offensive play calling, blocking schemes. He did nothing. It was blind arrogance There is simply no way he saw the product and thought it was good enough.

I think he knew but it changed quickly when NIL was not what LSU believed it was. Guys get to campus and then earn deals.
Suddenly it was no longer LSU got mostly whomever they wanted in the state and border areas.
Work was going to be needed to revamp how we did things for the last 20+ years and BK had no interest
And yeah he’s kind of a blowhard that believed himself to be Nick Saban just without the talent advantage Nick has enjoyed. He doesn’t have Nick’s insane drive, Scott thought he did

1) He benefitted being a coach at Notre Dame not being a good coach
2) Fumbled recruiting
3) Was out for him, poor work ethic
4) Fired key personnel, then rehired them
5) Crappy Hires
6) Terrible in-game coach, reactive and not proactive
7) Bad at assessing player depth
8) Selfish, failed to embrace his position, location, and his resources

I think some of these older coaches cannot adapt to the era of NIL where players have more power than ever before. There is no more CEO coach. You have to be a players coach and be able to coach Xs and Ys. I think he wanted to manage the team with superior talent and have his cooridinators do the coaching.

We’re judging with the benefit of hindsight
Polian had a pretty good track record for recruiting at a&m. He was just tied to the weekly laughable STs disasters and had to go
No one at time either objected to him cleaning house on either side of the ball. Whiffed on the replacements, yes but you won’t find many back then upset about Raymond and baker not being retained.

quote:Stubborn to the point to rival Miles, in that he always refused to admit/fix mistakes until after it cost him. Bad hires and apparent bad leadership. If he had replaced Sloan after last season, Kelly would likely still be here.
Seriously…your opinion on why Kelly didn’t work out.

Stubborn, prone to fits of anger, set in his ways, no empathy for players or coaches. Stubborn

How hard can it be to find a coach that wants to actually work for his $10 mil salary?
Kelly barely was involved with the program.
O worked, won a title then basically quit working to get laid.
“OK if we hire you and pay you $10 mil per, you understand you need to actually show up to work and try to win titles, not pussy right?”
Shouldn’t have to ask that but based on last 2 hires maybe they should.

Always seemed a bit old, tired and over it. Only older coach I can think of who coached with a full tank of gas at all times was Saban.

It's a stark reminder of just how dumb most of this board is.
If anyone here actually had a clue about anything, they would be employed to do this shite and not just talk about it on an anonymous message board.

I’m not going to speculate on one reason or another but I’ll point out that he was delusional.
We beat some shitty teams, barely, and he thought we were spoiled because we saw how many flaws there were.
It’s like he never addressed anything other than Hilton jumping for every ball. He genuinely thought he was doing well.

He got rid of too many key personnel right when he hired in trying to make it his own and it backfired on him.

A) He never tried to make it work out, and this was just a retirement package for him.
B) He seriously thought the problem at ND was the inability to get necessary talent due to academic standards and location. LSU could remedy both problems. He realized somewhere around year 3 that it wasn’t going to happen, and decided at that point that he would just ride it u til being fired.
One way or the other he wasn’t seriously trying anymore.
