With the NCAA’s decision to allow fall sports student-athletes to play without counting this year as a year of eligibility, I decided to look at some LSU players who are seniors that could return next season. I chose players that I think won’t have too big of a role, but can really be helpful for next season. Feel free to add/subtract names.

WR - Jontre Kirklin
S - Cameron Lewis (could be really big with S depth)
LB - Ray Thornton
DE - Andre Anthony/Travez Moore

Racey is a big one to watch too, but I personally don’t see him returning with a decent season. He’s already a draft pick based on his special teams potential alone.

He is also going to put up fantastic numbers at the combine.

Tory Carter although he doesn’t really fit the team anymore and Lloyd Cole who is a walk on but has contributed on special teams and occasionally on defense. Also, could Shanahan return?

And on the field. Think he's gonna be a beast this year. He may be more talented than Marshall.
Lewis would be huge if he can stay on the field. The rest have to show me something before I even care if they come back.
Kirklin will never contribute again aside from special teams. Do appreciate his contributions against UCF.
Thornton is a weird one. Has flashed but does he really fit in space at LB?
Anthony and Moore will get their shot.

Unlike baseball, if Seniors come back in football it probably means they can’t help you much. Unless it’s a specialist

If the nfl doesn’t want you then you’re probably not a contributor in the sec

Name some seniors without an nfl draft grade that we would miss if they didn’t return for an extra season

That’s not what you said. You literally said “if the nfl doesn’t want you you’re prob not an sec contributor

The great 2011 team had 11 starters that never took an nfl snap. Lol

Legitimately one of the best teams LSU ever fielded

Basically the same thing

This thread is about 2020 fall sports and granted extra year of eligibility

I didn’t say there has never been a situation where seniors couldn’t help. Obviously there has been in history. I don’t see any besides maybe Van Rosenberg from this group. The younger players are better in almost every other case.

LSU had like 10 underclassmen enter last year.

I don’t even know who is a SR tbh. It is a very common occurrence to contribute & not play in the nfl

I guess you’d have to name someone aside from Von Rosenberg that you feel could help if they took the extra year, or a guy like Cam Lewis on a special teams coverage unit maybe?

Maybe Shanahan at Center?

Saw Tory in one of the practice clips and said damn that dude is still there... can’t imagine he stays another year but hell have fun and get a grad degree.

Farrell has a redshirt year left anyway

Yes, Shanahan could come back as well

I will be interested to see how they handle this if they implement an early start to 2021 and a late start to what would be a 2021/2022 season. I, personally, think it would be ridiculous to do that but I just know that the schools not participating in 2020 will be hungry for an early start to 2021 and they'd still almost need to have a 2021/2022 season.

Will 2020 participants then have to use this mulligan in the early 2021 start? If they choose not to, do they lose that year that they gained? Or, will the 2020 participants be able to opt into the 2021 start or defer to the 2021/2022 season? It could be really tricky until 2023.

Harder to find examples with the top programs(LSU, Bama, UGA, UF, AU). But I bet between the rest of the SEC there are quite a few non NFL "draftable" seniors that they would want back. Especially some offensive lineman.

A little confused with what you are saying but simply put this entire school year doesn’t count for everyone .

Football is a fall sport. It doesn’t matter who plays when this entire school year, it doesn’t count eligibility wise. Kind of crazy but that is what they are doing.

Understood. Football wise, though. Let's say they start next season in April and play a shortened schedule again through June. Then, turn around and play another season starting in September and play through December. This would mainly be to benefit the schools that aren't participating this season.

If LSU plays the 2020 season, then also the early 2021 season...do all of the players still get a free run for the late 2021 season?

LSU is going to play this season starting in September.

They won’t play another season until next September
