Have you been to Oxford? There is vitriol hate between the schools, fan bases and just ways of life. The game meant more in positioning oneself in the SEC west pecking order.

No they didn’t. They said the exact opposite.
The 2024 schedule was supposed to be a one-year thing while the SEC figured out a new permanent format, then they pushed it to 2 years (flipping home/away for 2025) because they didn’t have the permanent format in place yet this year.
So yeah.. the entire premise of your thread is basically wrong.

Historically, Ole Miss is LSUs biggest rivalry and I believe we’ve played state more times than any other team.

It's not about being scared. It's about making the playoffs and the chance to win a natty. Why make the schedule harder than necessary.
Alabama became a rival once Saban arrived after making LSU a great program that it still is and the game became competitive. Before that, there was no rivalry because Bama owned LSU.
Florida, I won't miss them nor their obnoxious fans.
