This is correct. Against the clock you always do the hardest thing first and that's scoring the touchdown.
this is wrong. When short on time, you don't burn all that time getting the TD because if you recover the onside kick, you'll be out of FG range with almost no time left.

The correct decision (and Gary Danielson even noted) is to kick the FG and then if you get the onside kick, you have enough time for a few shots to the end zone.

This is pretty common knowledge how to handle these situations.

Because we were in a better position to score a touchdown from their 30 yard line than with 20 seconds left starting from much poorer field position after potentially recovering an onside kick.

You need two scores no matter what. You also need time. You kick the FG as early as possible so that you have time to get the second score. We could have kicked the
fG at a minimum at the 38 second mark. We at least would have had a chance.

Arguing theoretical is pretty pointless.
Someone post the advanced stats that show increased win percentage when kicking the field goal first.

Your best options are to kick the field goal asap, or throw to the endzone. NOT 5-10 yard passes to the middle of the field. I understand the clock stops temporarily for a 1st down, but when you need 2 scores you have to throw to the sidelines and endzone. LSU was playing like they were only down 7.

This is my biggest gripe. The play calling on that last drive resulted in a ton of wasted time
