Feel free to put any money you spend because of athletics into the academic side. Have season tickets? Don't renew, give that money to the uni instead of taff.
I'm way ahead of you there. I gave up my season tickets 2 years ago. Haven't been to a football game since. Zero regrets. It is just too nice to watch from home with all of the creature comforts easily available. I still go to basketball/baseball games occasionally.
I have 3 children in college currently and am paying plenty for academics (albeit my own children). I may give to a LSU academic fund down the road.

We were the leader in supporting academics with athletic money. I always took a lot of pride in that. What's disturbing is the sense from Woodward that the Athletic Dept. isn't even part of the University but a separate entity. It has been heading that way for a long time but it is now much worse than before.
“It’s something that’s very dangerous, when universities rely on recurring money, especially from an auxiliary like the athletic department,” Woodward said. “So no, I think, while I will always support the university in some form or fashion, we can not sustain what we’re currently doing.”
This statement flies in the face of history. The University, or State of Louisiana if you will, provided the land the Stadium sits on. Until the tv money started coming in, the football team was at least partially sustained by state funds.
It is almost like he is now turning on the parents that gave birth to him and his enterprise. I understand that sports has a lot more support than academics ever will but to just slam the door like this is somewhat uncalled for. You want a separate facility? Fine, start paying rent for the stadium and other facilities. I love football and basketball but I also love everything that LSU stands for!

He’s not “slamming the door” on academics.
He’s just tactfully saying the AD isn’t going to fund an incompetent and/or corrupt academic department and give them carte Blanche to piss away the money while neglecting to fund the real needs, which is what they’ve been doing.
It’s a shot across the bow of F. King’s unaccountable academic machine.
Woodward is only demanding (to the extent he can) the same excellence of the academic side as he does the athletic side. It will make academics better, and if it forces King out in the process that will be a huge coup for both Woodward and LSU. Couldn’t have come soon enough.

Then why don’t you want us to compete on a level playing field? No other school has this kind of a blanket arrangement.

What LSU stands for? Taking TAF DONOR money and putting them into academics? Supporters don’t donate to TAF to pay for classroom lighting. That’s what university academic foundations are for.
What Woodward did was basically tell F King and his friends to get off the pee pee pot and start earning his pay by actually doing something constructive on the academic side instead of mooching off of athletics to bail them out. What the academic people should be doing is learning how to fundraise. The biggest mistake that academicians make is that they forget that college athletics is the #1 marketing tool for public institutions. There’s a ton of students that don’t just go to LSU or any big school for that matter because of JUST academics. When your team plays on tv in front of a national audience, people want to be a part of that; and I will admit that LSU does a great job marketing it. Now, it’s time for these bureaucrats to get off their butts and learn from the private sector.

Tell us what you did during your time as an AD at a major university. How did you handle this?

He has this listed as his new book.
Becoming Ronald Reagan: The Rise of a Conservative Icon.”
Taking a quick glance at his twitter I guess this guy knows all about what it takes to be a conservative icon.

He is just your basic, run of the mill leftist. Nothing particularly interesting or unique about him or his opinions.
He is a far greater problem at LSU than the TAF ever will be.

This is what we call “doubling down.” LSU Athletics has give a TON of monetary support to the athletic side over the years. Especially the past 7. They’ve given more than agreed upon. What happens? People complain when they spend their own money on themselves. His response? You’re gonna complain about free stuff? “I’ll just take it away and let you sink or swim on your own.” I like it.

He knocked this out of the park and acted exactly as an AD should.
It’s been a long, long time, since we have had one capable of leading so it’s no surprise people are now confused.

Shut up, moron. Is that the standard for forming opinions now, having actually held the position that is being discussed? frick off.
If you can’t see how this will be misconstrued by media and academic types, you’re just not paying attention.

amen brother.
the "average" American is now a lazy fat slob and operates on emotions as opposed to using their damn brains. a small percentage votes and many vote on their "perception" or straight party tickets because of their perception. they have no clue as to a candidates true qualifications.

You honestly think you’re the only one here smart enough to see how those types would misconstrue this to their benefit?
Everyone in this thread knew they would react in predictable fashion. We just don’t give a frick and neither should you. The university was unable to attract and retain top tier talent even when the AD was funneling millions of dollars to the school.
They’re to blame for their own mismanagement.
