There's a good chance Saban would have won 2006 but i don't think he would have gotten Perriloux so do we win 2007 SECCG if Flynn is out? Who knows but yes good chance he wins both

I would think LSU could have won 4/5 more national titles with Saban. 5 is not unrealistic

Started watching the Tigers as a kid in the early 70s , been a fan ever since. 1st live game was the Bluebonnet Bowl against Tennessee , attended many games in Tiger stadium since. LSU never had a stretch like 2003-2019, 3 nattys. How many teams have done better ? I would love to have had a few more , how about 10 straight championships ? Then some would be mad when #11 didn't pan out. Appreciate what we have and you will be much happier - not just talking football here.

Honestly, he would have gotten so tired of the up and down nature of our fans and the catastrophe syndrome you guys have that there is zero chance he would have lasted 15 years.

Skip should have offered him double the highest coaching salary to keep him. The payoff for another 5 to 8 national championships would have been in the billions.

Saban did not leave for money. He wanted to test himself at the next level. f he had done that prior to coming to LSU he may likely still be here.

Saban was a different (and better) coach after his failed stint with the Dolphins. Yes, his NFL experience was not successful, but he learned things from that failed experience that took him to another level

In his first four years at Michigan State (when he didn’t have the best talent in the country year after year like he does now) he went 25-22-1. In only one of those seasons he won more than 6 games.

I would use this same statistic to make my argument. Saban was not near as good a coach at Michigan State as he is now. He was good, but that’s it. He came to LSU and the ability to recruit Top 3-5 classes made him very good. But that’s it. Even with superior recruiting at LSU he lost quite a few games every year. It wasn’t until after his NFL experience that he was able to take great talent and turn it into consistently great teams. Something happened for him in the NFL.... some light bulb that nobody else can see turned on.

A trend that has largely been replicated by Miles and Orgeron.

I can see it. It's called #1 recruiting classes year after year. That's been the only difference in his entire coaching career.

ETA: Just out of curiosity, in your opinion, what percentage of current college coaches could win at least one national title with eight #1 recruiting classes in nine years?

03, 05, 06, 07, 10, 11, 12

And probably a couple more, that’s hypothetical speaking that Saban had Les’s recruiting classes. We have at least 7 rings since 2003.

Nattys?
That depends, how many were held in New Orleans?

This. $aban and college football are all about recruiting. Almost a direct correlation between recruiting class rankings and AP rankings. Why don’t great coaches win natty’s at Utah and Boise State? Look at the kids they are getting. Why is Florida competitive every year, no matter who is running the show? Look at the talent base they are sitting on.
25 #1 draft picks every year will make anyone look like a genius!

Well, depends on his recruiting and how much leeway the administration would have given him

Saban was at LSU for FIVE seasons.

4 out of 5 seasons he had a minimum of 3 losses.

LSU fans want Orgeron fired a year after winning a national championship. Imagine The Rant today if a team lost to a team like Saban lost to Iowa.

This isn’t even a good troll.
