If they win, they advance to the round of 32 against Arkansas.

If they win that, they advance to the sweet 16 against Texas A&M.

If they win that, they advance to the Quarterfinals against Georgia or Tennessee.

If they win that, they advance to the semifinals and the CFP.

2 loss team, even an SEC conference champ, will need help getting in.

Clemson is in, Mich/OSU winner is in (maybe loser too), 1 loss pac 12 champ & 1 loss (or 0, TCU) b12 champ.

Hell I could see Tenn w 1 loss (UGA) going over 2 loss SEC champ LSU.

Nope. 1 of the main resume builders to get into the playoff is being a Conference champion.
If LSU somehow wins 7 in a row (including a win against presumably the #1 undefeated team in the nation) after getting beat by Tennessee in October, then they are in the CFP.

If Tenn loses to UGA and ends up 11-1, you think a 11-2 lsu gets in automatically over Tenn who destroyed us head to head?

I'm not so sure.

Nope, again. There is already precedent by the CFP Committee to put teams in that don’t have a conference title.

Penn State beat Ohio State for the B1G Champ. one year. Ohio State got in, Penn State did not. The last couple years of the loser of the SEC Champ. getting in.

Conference titles don’t mean half a shite anymore. This is the world we live in now.

Well Alabama would be a 2-seed today, so does that make LSU a 15?

True. ONE of the main resume builders. But non conference champs have gotten in before. You know who hasn’t gotten in before? A 2-loss team. We would definitely need help with 2 losses, neither of which would be considered “good losses.”

There's actually a lot of truth to this.

LSU currently would be a 4 seed. Alabama a 2 seed. Arkansas a 7 seed. A&M wouldn't be in because of automatic qualifiers but they would probably be like a 14 seed if so. Georgia/Tennessee a 1 seed. Semi opponent a 1 seed. Final opponent a 1 seed.

So basically like a 1/1/1/2/7/14 path to win it all. A 4 seed's chalk path in basketball would be 13/5/1/2/1/1.

We're not counting UAB.....

Stop comparing the SEC to Big10. When has an SEC champ not made the playoff?
How many times have 2 SEC teams made the playoff? What about Big10?

Not necessarily. Let’s assume these 3 are all undefeated and win conferences. They’re in. And we beat UGA in ATL.

OSU/Mich (winner)
Clemson
TCU

You’re saying it’s a given we’d be in over
-1 loss UT (who beat the shite out of us)
-1 loss Oregon which has been on a tear (assume they win P12)
-Loser of Mich/OSU (let’s say it’s a close game and they’re 11-1.

There’s no world where it’s a given we’d be in over all those other teams. We’d need help for sure. I don’t like it as much as anyone but take off the purple and gold glasses for a second.

And this is why a playoff system is not necessary.

Because this scenario plays out every single season, which is why college football is the greatest sport - ever.

I think we would be ahead of Tennessee in this scenario. I also think if this scenario were to happen there is a solid possibility the SEC gets left out altogether if the other 4 power 5 conferences end with a 1 loss champ or better. If we beat Tennessee in the SECCG I think we would get in as the committee would be able to take into account the avenged loss.

2017 Auburn was definitely getting in with 2 losses if they beat UGA again in the SEC title game.

I’m on the fence on this one, I think there are a lot of variables that could go either way. Also highlights why it is ridiculously stupid to play a decent OOC under this system. Little to gain and a lot to lose.

This scenario includes LSU beating a presumably undefeated #1 ranked team in the SEC Championship before the playoff.

That’s essentially your 1st rd of the playoffs. Then yes, LSU is in the CFP. Loser is out.

The only discussion then is does the other 1-loss SECE team (UGA or Tenn) get in over a Clemson/TCU?

The comparison to Penn State/Ohio State in 2016 isn’t really relevant bc Penn State beat a #6 ranked, 2 loss Wisconsin in their championship game (not an undefeated #1 team).
While Ohio State beat a #3 ranked, 1 loss Michigan in their last game before the CFP.

All this doesn’t really matter though until 11/6.
