How should we expect this to translate to SEC big boy ball?

Let’s see, he had 11 hits in 30 ABs against SEC pitching

Alex Milazzo had 17 hits. All year.

The more you post the more I realize you don’t know a whole lot of ball.

Yeah, you die on that hill with Milazzo and Mainieri. I’m good buddy. You do you and “know a lot about ball”.

Midweek at bats or front line starters. Big difference. I don’t know, just pointing out obvious discrepancy in level of play.

I’m sorry, I don’t consider this some noteworthy talent. Any half decent D1 catcher can do this.

This is how I know you’ve never played, followed, or even watched the game at the college level. Won’t even dignify this take by commenting further

And to LE, you miss the point. It’s not about what he did under the previous regime. It’s what he COULD do under CJJ with a little work. It’s much easier to see Beloso or Bianco getting the short end of this transfer than it is Milazzo

Keeping a ball in front of you is a noteworthy talent as a division 1 catcher. Well I be. I thought it was kind of expected. Like catch fly balls in the OF.

If he’s ok with catching midweek games & bring a defensive replacement in other games

Gonna be some tough decisions to be made behind the plate, especially if Moller and/or Jensen make it to campus and Milazzo swings it a bit. I don't think McManus is meant to run Milazzo off, though. You need a McManus as an insurance policy, at the absolute worst even if he's not the guy. You can't go into next season without some options back there.

Well he was the only catcher on the team last year that could do that

If Moller and Jenson both go pro I could see LSU signing even another catcher. I will be surprised if Milazzo doesn’t beat out the transfer from Samford

That’s great. Sounds like we recruited some terrible catchers if apparently they couldn’t stop a ball in the dirt. My expectations are too high though.

I don’t either, but it’s different competing with a guy who has hit college pitching, rather than trying to fend off some incoming freshmen or even a warm body like Wyeth.

So my point was more along the lines of how is that going to make Milazzo feel

Kid here has some skins on the wall. I don’t think you leave a starting gig at another D1 school to come back up the worst hitting player LSU has seen in 3 decades

Amen. Nothing guaranteed for any player now. But very foolish to disregard the importance of an elite defensive backstop. He’ll have a say, especially if he can learn a thing or two under JJ

The stolen bases Sanford gave up is a little alarming though 60 plus steals in 90 attempts given up

Maybe but don’t under estimate the importance of pitchers w steals as well

I know he wasn’t. He started 50 of 59 games though. He isn’t coming here to sit the bench.

He wasn’t the main catcher at Samford and you think he starts at LSU? Maybe I will be proven wrong but I just don’t see it now.
