Bottom line is if Saban stayed, I have no doubt the W/L record, SEC and NC would have been greater from 2005-now that it has been. I just don't know if he would have replicated the Bama machine here.

It's of course impossible to know but if anything he would have had a chance because he wouldn't have had to play against himself

Without Saban at Bama we definitely win 2011 and would have had a pretty good shot in 2012 as well

What if Cecil Collins wasn't such a head case.

Those recruits also had only known LSU to be an elite team.

So? Miles was part of that. The recruits on Coker’s 7-6 team in 2006 only knew Miami as an elite team, that’s less time than Miles first year to 2011 btw. The recruits at Nebraska when Solich was fired only knew Nebraska as an elite team. It’s pitiful some you hate Miles so much simply because he’s not the GOAT

The first question is who is Sabin? The next is what exactly does this mean? The 2010-2011 teams were all Miles recruits the staff was all his hires, it was all his team. Whether he could have done that if we never had Saban is irrelevant but Okla St had 12 losing seasons in 13 years before Les was hired and he had 3 winning seasons in 4 years there
And he has a winless Kansas team from last year at 2-1 this year.

KU was 2-1 at this point last year.

There was absolutely nothing he had done before 2007 to indicate he was capable of building what he's built.

Yes and no, he did leave LSU stacked, his 2001, 2003 and 2004 classes were all top 2-3 classes. The signs were there for a dominant run. Its snowballed however

There is no way of knowing how the year of Katrina would have really stressed him. He is a guy that has to have complete control of things. And that year was anything but control. No matter whatever Les became, he did an incredible job of holding the ship together during that year (minus the Tennessee game). By year's end that was a good damn team all things considered.

I have only three questions for the “most accomplished” crowd:
1) If you could rewrite history, would you hire Miles in 2000 instead of Saban? yes/no
2) Are you satisfied with the moves CEO has made, the talent and the staff he has assembled, the outlook for this year and the near future? Yes/no
3) Do you wish LSU had Les Miles right now? Yes/no

I actually don’t care what your answers are to 1 & 2. If you answer yes to 3, you’re out of touch.

Les did a lot for LSU football, but the program’s current pulse and trajectory is vastly preferable to an entire 50% of Miles’ LSU career — the more recent 50%, mind you.

He lost 3 games every year but one while at LSU, at least one on the last play and a very average Eli Manning team beat him in B.R. Remember the near revolt by the players in the locker room post bowl game, his last? They had had enough of him. Corey Webster made it clear he could / would not play for him if the Fins drafted him. He never returned to BR after his only PC in Fla. For the Fins' press. Even Candy was reportedly tired of him.

And there are still those that insist Les Miles accomplished what he did all by himself… Without riding on Sabin’s coattails. Imagine that…

Probably, but as a Saints fan I think I will take that Super bowl win. No Saban at Bama = No Brees in NO . Lsu has won championships and I think they win be there in the end soon!

then why did you ask

quote:

of course not and btw in 1999 when Saban was hired Miles wasn't even a HC yet, Saban had been a college HC for 6 years and was a DC and DB coach at both the the college and pro level. His resume was a mile long, he was probably the most qualified candidate we've ever seen

quote:

) Are you satisfied with the moves CEO has made, the talent and the staff he has assembled, the outlook for this year and the near future? Yes/no

Sure, what does that have to do with Miles having probably the most successful run in LSU history?

quote:

3) Do you wish LSU had Les Miles right now? Yes/no

no, i wanted him out in 2015, things were obviously stale and it was time for him to move on It happens to pretty much all coaches. Very, very few leave on top. That doesn't negate or change the great things he did at LSU.

but the program’s current pulse and trajectory is vastly preferable to an entire 50% of Miles’ LSU career — the more recent 50%, mind you.

You're saying that in large part because of the offense, we all had Les Miles fatigue at the end. But yeah, things look great for this season and hopefully beyond, still has nothing to do with Miles being "accomplished" at LSU
