Saban projected this years ago. NIL and the transfer portal are bad for college sports.

He sent the word to the media after the bowl game that he was done.

It’s an end of an era.

Now he can't dictate who he gets, it's a level playing field. He's definitely a legend but it did help that he could just keep stacking that roster w 5*

Or…. He’s in his 70s and being the lead of a major college program is exhausting.

Is the landscape harder to manage? Yes, but if anyone could find a way to stack the deck it would be Nick.

Couldn’t win without stock piling all the 5 star players on his bench

Not sure I would call it a level playing field. Just the factors that heavily influence recruiting have changed with NIL, but the haves will still have. The others will pick up the leftovers. pretty much as it happens now. The number of haves may get even more concentrated, but there can be some shifts as to who are the top dogs.

We will see more named coaches leave college. It is now easier to coach in the NFL. You have to recruit, re-recruit your roster, NIL, the portal and lord knows what else.

Weren’t him and Kirby outspoken about the transfer portal and NIL not being what it was supposed to be? You know players actually getting paid off their name image and likeness and not straight out of boosters pockets.

They’re about to lose 70% of their fanbase.

There is still time to transfer. They will probably lose commits over his retirement.

I think the transfer portal is worse than NIL. Be true to your school.

He knew that when he was at LSU. He kept the top talent home that ha d been going to Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Tennessee.
Who does win without top talent? We aren't.
