Both of these clips are a good listen. Takes me back.

I am forever grateful for what Saban did for LSU.

I did hear the one where his wife was in a local restaurant and there was a board up with names of perspective coaches, and Nick’s name wasn’t on it, so she walked up and added it.

This is what gets lost in the retrospectives.

Yes…Nick Saban undeniably built LSU into a powerhouse.

But LSU also built Nick Saban into a powerhouse.

Why wasn’t his name on the prospective coaches board? Why did she have to add it?

Because he wasn’t known enough as a coach for anyone to think to put him there…not even at the dumpster fire that was LSU at that point.

He arrived as a relative unknown and left as a household name.

LSU and Nick Saban made each other.

I can't get into this conversation about him leaving LSU. It's too soon for me.

This is true. The mood in Baton Rouge and LSU nation could best have been described as “cautious optimism.”

I remember thinking at Saban’s first presser: “Hmm. This guy sounds like he’s got his act together.”

But no one was raving right off the bat that we had reeled in an all-time great.

Nick is a dick.
But when he was our dick, he turned our program around from good to great.

We had Spurrier in Baton Rouge begging for the job but we turned him down in 1986.

This is why I can't get completely on board with the thought that Jay Johnson will never leave for another job.

yup, when they adamantly insist and begin gesticulating and lose patience with the press asking the questions, vehemently denying thy are leaving, that's the cue for the pilot to start cranking up the engines

LSU should have taken Saban back in a heartbeat. Miles was a loser that got lucky.

This board loves to suck Nick. How about Nick giving LSU credit for boosting his career? No one ever reads into that narrative. They just pretend like he came down here and built something from nothing. There’s a reason the SEC exploded during more modern (fast) football and it’s because of the talent in the south. Louisiana has as much talent as anyone. Yes Nick is a great coach but he was also at the right place at the right time. Great recruiter and defensive mind, but not enough credit is given to US. He left us and joined our worst rival and won countless championships for them beating our arse year after year. Saban simps, respect him all you want but please go blow him somewhere else.

I always remember him saying he had no interest in coaching NFL. Coaching over paid kids that he had no control over.

Spurrier was begging LSU to hire him after Arnsparger resigned and DAD (Dumb arse Dean) hired DC Archer because the team "Liked" him.
