No I don’t necessarily think they were “pushed out”, definitely not ALL of them at least… but I think if Jay really wanted/needed any of them, then they wouldn’t have entered the portal…
We have no catcher (have 2 good ones set to come, but both are potential draft risks, and even if we get both, one will be a true freshman and the other a true SO from JUCO--talented, but unproven), no SS (I was 90% sure Braswell would sign, but Jay may be forced to give him the hard sell on coming back and developing even further, dip into the NIL pool and hope Braswell goes late and gets offered something we can at least get close to hopefully convince him), and no 3B.
Any chance John Pearson can play 3rd? I heard him on the radio and he said he could, but he's even stockier than Tommy White, and I can't see him having a whole lot of lateral range or being able to routinely make plays on slow rollers. But he's got till February to work on it. If his bat plays, maybe we can get away with him over there as long as he can just make the routine plays.
Obviously when I say we have no catcher, SS (if Bras leaves), or 3B, I mean a proven, experienced one on this level. We've got some talented recruits coming in from high school (and I think a JUCO IF), but I don't follow baseball recruiting at except what I absorb here via osmosis. I know about Preister because he was here last year and Pearson because I'm from WM. There may be some ready-to-play-now guys coming in.
But I don't think Jay will count on that, and he'll wind up grabbing some vets out of the portal at those positions as insurance at the very least if he winds up not being able to land some of the big names he may still be going after. We'll be fine, but we'll need some young guys to be ready to contribute early. Just like every team, every year.

Tanner Reaves, JUCO infielder is probably the leading candidate to take over at 3rd base. He’s been a JUCO AA for the last two seasons. If you’re looking for him to replace Tanks’ production you will be highly disappointed. But everything I’ve read on him has been really positive.

Reaves was moved to the OF this past year because he couldn't cut it in the INF

The numbers don’t lie. This amount of flight of layers u brought in to the program is unprecedented . JJ must not be a good locker room guy. They played like the chemistry was off. Good luck w next group of nomads.

Thanks, I couldn't' remember his name and wasn't sure what position he played. I don't think Kent is a SS--think he's a 3B or 2B--so I wonder what Jay's plan for him was before he decided he was heading back to College Station. I don't think moving Milam to SS is ideal--he's great at 2nd, but doesn't have quite the range or arm you'd prefer in the SEC. But with the crowded OF and current numbers in the IF, we may wind up having to move Milam over and trying JOSH Pearson at 2nd again. I don't know Reaves' build, maybe he can play 2nd*** and somebody else can play 3rd. I'm sure it will all work itself out, just interesting to discuss right now since most of us haven't seen most of these guys play.
***totally off-topic, but since I mentioned Kent, I wanted get something off my chest that has grinded my gears for damn near 2 decades. His dad was 6'3" and totally built like a 3rd baseman, but didn't have the arm to play there at the MLB level. But his bat was too good to keep off the field. Yet when he gets compared historically (especially in the context of the HOF), it's to other 2nd basemen, which he will always compare to very favorably offensively even though he only played there because he couldn't play 3rd. So basically, he gets bonus points for having a terrible arm. Always irrationally bothered me. And he stole an MVP from Bonds.

Says who? Milan could absolutely play SS in the SEC. He looked good there last Fall.

So Jay has super powers to make players stay?
Umm pretty much…
Pretty much everyone that’s entered the portal so far has done so because they have either “been processed” or because they can see the writing on the wall and realize it will take something drastic for them to get immediate/significant playing time…
I mean just use Kucherak as an example, why would he come here, waste an entire year pretty much, just to transfer somewhere else when he’s about to get his shot? Because he knows somehow, whether it’s because he’s had a talk with Jay or because he knows Braswell’s coming back for sure, idk, that he’s most likely looking at another year of limited playing time…

Does someone have a running list of portal transfers in/out so far? Would be greatly appreciated by many I'm sure.

Hit up the big thread on the recruiting board and scroll about 5 pages back. Poster WJP23 updates it daily with posts of players we are connected to and transfers in and out of the program.

It's concerning to say the least. Over half the roster gone with more TBD. Jay has a major rebuild on his hands. I don't pretend to know what all the issues were with this team/are with some of these guys but there are
Ill admit im not a full time baseball guy but i dont understand how pw9ple are penciling lsu into omaha.
I really like the pitching that is coming in through the portal, juco, and hs.
But im a tad bit worried about the bats. Hopefully the bats coming from juco are legit.

He was. But the point still remains. LSU has benefited from transfers WAYYYYYY more than it has hurt us.
Can only comment w.r.t. football and baseball.
I agree with your point - in the short term. In the long term is TBD.
However, when we won our CFB natty in '19, we did so without a portal factor. Our natural recruiting footprint is so strong it does not need to be supplemented by the portal.
Similarly in baseball, in the Skip era ('84 and on) our baseball success dwarfs every other school's even before the '23 natty. And yes, I wholly concur that we don't win diddly in '23 without the players that came via the portal (Skenes, Cooper, Hurd, White), But the majority of our success occurred without the portal.
I am not convinced that the portal is in our best interest in either sport and I certainly do not think it's in the best interest of either sport.

Well this is flat out not true. Football has had to depend heavily on the portal. Kelly is working on stabilizing that, but the portal will always be necessary.

It is going to be a requirement for every sport. Players can easily leave, for a ton of different reasons. You are going to have to supplement some of that with the portal. Not to mention, sometimes there are absolute studs in the portal that you want to grab bc they instantly make your team better.
Embrace it, because it's the world we live in now.

Jay will still find a way to keep Josh Pearson on the field. OF is probably to crowded. I wouldn't be surprised with Milam at SS and Pearson at 2B. If Bras comes back, I also wouldn't be surprised to see Jay try Pearson at 3B as ridiculous as it may sound. We've seen Neal and Jobert sub at 3B.

Did you miss how the team responded after he got ejected and ran back out in SECT? Clearly a guy that no one will play for.

Joe burrow came from the portal.
And to be honest 2018/19 isn't the same as now. The portal is ramped up to 10.
Guys are leaving for a payday. That wasn't happening in 18 or 19.
