that TD run set up the super secret RS10 halfback pass we've been waiting on for 3.5 years.

Louisiana would fall into the Gulf if this happened.

Shep has a lot of talent but for it to be maximized he needs to be on the field almost every play - not just ferried out for a set where "we all know who's gonna get the ball" type thing.

The problem with him playing every play is that his hands make him a liability in the passing game.

IMO, we need to keep him on the field as much as possible. He's probably our fastest player on O, our best deep threat, and along with OBJ one of our better play makers. If he got more touvhes and got into the rhythm of the game my guess is the issue with his hands would mostly fade.

Hope he has a great game/season.

Problem is that if the ball is passed to him, he's in trouble.
Needs to be a hand-off or pitch...

so yall want to take touches away from ford? I thought he was a fan favorite of the rant.

Every week, someone needs more touches. Russell is soft, im sorry but that's that. He went untouched for 77 yds cus the o line actually blocked amazingly on that play.

So lets put another liability in the passing game out there. he cant catch, and he certainly isnt going to hep out in pass blocking. The only thing he can do is run, and hes not strong enough to break tackles or chip away at the pass rushers. hes good for a few good plays here and there, doesnt need to be on the field at all times.

Since this is directed to me, I'll answer.

No, I don't want touches taken away from Ford. However, if RS is given some plays out of the backfield, I don't think we'd be taking touches away from anyone. We're very deep at RB, and now with Blue out for the season, I don't see how it could be taking snaps from anyone.

It doesn't revolve around me and it's not for me to decide what kind of plays he gets but I'd be ok with him getting some plays running the ball.

I'm not remotely saying we need to make Shep a starting running back.

He is a pretty damn good blocker.

Russell Shepard needs more handoffs, PERIOD.

WR sweeps, or RB tosses.. With Blue out and possible bigger backs having to shift to fullback for Copeland.. now is the best time!

I still believe LSU should ground and pound with the RB's.. but what I am saying is Shep should get a few more creative ways to carry the ball.. especially now.

Like even if it's only 4 or 5 carries.. That's fine.
I would rather see one of the numerous bubble screens replaced with it. And again not saying I want to abandon the bubble screens by any means.

It'll be interesting to see.

Definitely.

I was thinking earlier, let's say there's a play where you have Mett in the shotgun, flanked by Ware on one side, Shep on the other side. Who gets the ball?

Most opposing teams would think (I would assume this but then again I'm not a coach) Shep since he "can't block." Ware (being larger) would be blocking.

Shep is a better blocker than people give him credit for so you could run this a couple times, then really give Shep the ball, have Ware block, along with the OL..... It would be really interesting to see, like you said.

I remember, you probably do as well, that first crease he got against Auburn his freshman year, when Blackwell got a good block and Shep was gone. I can still hear Mark Jones calling the game, "This is the promise they talked about! This is the speed they talked about!"
