A sad fact that has little to do with athletics or Russell Shepard.
it was an unstated jab that universities care more about athletic commodities than the general student population

Oh come on. I bet the Rant could provide some thought provoking insight.

All I know is that I feel horribly for her. That poor girl is going to be ruthlessly mocked for the rest of her life. I don't know what inducement she received from CBS to appear in that segment, but I'm pretty sure whatever it was wasn't a good deal.

My son flunked out of LSU his freshman year (too much fraterntiy, not enough classroom), got a job and sat out the requisite period before returning to school. He was not "relentlessly mocked," ridiculed or otherwise impugned by his friends, acquaintances or family. Perhaps that's the way they do it in the crowd you run with. Despite his stumble my son graduated from LSU law school and is now a partner in one of the biggest law firms in the U.S. It looks like this young lady is getting her act together and perhaps is also facing a brighter future now. And I doubt seriously that CBS paid her anything.

Presumably he also didn't cry about his predicament on national television.

That statement from the Maryland woman saying that their job is "to give out degrees to students" was sort of troubling to me, but I will talk about this issue no more unless the discussion pops up on the Poli Board...

considering how competitive it is to get into College Park these days, they better have a high graduation rate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think the Maryland woman's viewpoint was more suited to a community college mission....

To be honest, I'd be more worried if the graduation rate were 100%. College isn't supposed to be easy. It's not an entitlement. And it's not for everybody. And that's okay.

It's not University's job to hand out diplomas to just anyone, but it is certainly the University's obligation to provide athletes will all available resources - study hall, tutors, etc to ensure that athletes graduate. This is especially true of athletes, whose schedules can be grueling, structured, and time consuming. The schools with the best grad rates for athletes tend to devote the most time and resources to their athletes.

Anybody know where I can find Grad rates on all universities in Louisiana?

I found LA Tech is 49% and I know SUNO is 8% bc of the recent talk about that school. Could not find any other stats about grad rates in LA.

Hell no. LSU is not hard- people just need to have a little bit of discipline when it comes to school.

Stop crying and get back to me.
Tired of people bitching about their engineering majors when they're the ones who chose the major.
