Offense

LSU 221 ypg MSU 157 ypg

Defense

LSU 44.5 ypg 1.4 ypc MSU 115.5 ypg 3.4 ypc

We're 32-0 under Miles when LSU rushes for 100 and the opponent rushed for under 100.

I would think this game will fit in that catergory. Thoughts ?

MSU is gonna stack the box.

They will MAKE our QB pass to beat them. It's what I would do after watching our offense the first two games. I'd blitz the QB, and make them beat 7/8/9 guys in the box on the ground.

I would think the run game could be important. However, I also think State will stack the box and try to force us to pass. Can we pass would be the question?

It could, but i dont' think it will matter. Bottom line is that miss st can not pass the ball really well. If they have to rely on the running game against our defensive front and backers, they are in serious trouble. i think this is an LSU win by 17pts or better.

Even if they stack the box, I think we will be able to run especially in the second half. I think this is where we really need Peterson back at TE. Play action, throwing just over the LB's for big gains in the middle of the field.

I'm not sure LSU can run in any game if an opponent stacks the box, not including Vandy. LSU is not an overpowering offensive team. 3 and out will allow an opposing defense to stay rested.

We will pass and run well. Our D will insure that State doesn't run well. This one is in the bag at home, folks.

Same arguement could be said against LSU. If LSU can't run the ball against MSU when they stack the box against us, we will be in serious trouble too.

We have not been able to consistently stretch the field throwing the ball for 2 years. If this doesn't change it could be along year, but I think it starts to come together this week.

LSU 31
MSU 14

We all were probably thinking this for the Vandy game too

Foolish Comment, bordering on Hyperbole. MS State isn't coming to Baton Rouge to lose. And they will force us to pass.

For the first half I am sure you are right, but keeping the defense on the field due to 3 and outs by the offense is a recipe for disaster late in the game.

Vandy had 7 or 8 on the line all night lol. Crazy that we can't back them off.

By the way, stacking the box has some serious downsides for a defense. If anything gets outside containment, its clear sailing to the endzone. A team can gash you on the outside. Especially with the size of our recievers to deliver blocks downfield.IMO

MSU is better defensively than the first two units the Tigers faced but fwiw both of them often had 8 men in the box. Ridley broke several cut-back runs against 8 men fronts. For that matter even Blue had one nice run against a stacked deck. Spreading the field is key against that scheme. Some semblance of a downfield passing game is imperative. You cannot run a conventional 8 man front against a four receiver pattern that's clicking. A poor start by JJ will force Les to try JL IMO.

agreed, you'll eat a defense alive if you have a downfield threat and they try to stack the box.

Come back and eat some crow Saterday night. LSU is a better team than State this year, and we'll play better than we did the last two years. We'll stack up enough run yards to win the game and I do expect JJ to play better...at least average for him. Meanwhile State won't be as successful on the ground as us, and will be limited as much or moreso in the air...in the bag.

how many of you think JJ is holding back? Like not hitting recievers or taking sacks. What makes anyone think he can play better this game? Its like i posted before we can win some games because we have great players , but give a good coach great players and we would lose!
