Guess you have never seen what his batting average in Boston is with the Green Monster he can hit off lol. A lot of baseball experts were shocked bc they thought Chicago would be the destination but agreed Boston made sense.

This won't be a popular opinion, but Boston was CRAZY to give Bregman that contract. His best days are behind him, and have been for awhile.
Astros fans want the cheating talk to go away. Sure, it's old news, but it's in the record books and that makes a LOT of MLB (outside of Houston and Louisiana) still pissed off. It was fun to hear Bregman booed in Texas over the weekend, while Red Sox fans were going, "Wait, what? We inherited this?"
I am LSU through and through, but Bregman lost me forever over the 2017-18 thing. He's dead to me, as far as my LSU loyalty.
And yes, I agree that his career has begun its decline. I think the Red Sox grossly overpaid. Scott Boras is a magician.

I’ll have loyalty to pretty much any player that has worn an LSU jersey unless they commit some type of violent felony. Especially if they play for the Astros. The Astros were doing the same thing no fewer than 8 other teams were doing including the Dodgers, Yankees, and Red Sox. The cheating had no scientific data that points to it helping them. That’s the reason they stopped ON THEIR OWN. Dodger and Yankee fans are the worst with this. It’s been proven over the years those Astros teams and Bregman especially were just better. Bregman played a BIG part in that with his leadership and clutch gene in the playoffs. I for one love the way he handled the situation and talked his shite throughout. Just like a true LSU fan and player would do after being accused of doing something that at least a quarter of the league was doing and in all probability much closer two thirds were doing.

Name more than five 3rd basement better than Bregman in 2024. Ramirez, Machado, Riley.....Devers had good offensive numbers last year. We're hard on Bregman because we focus on every AB and he starts slow. Some of you simply don't like him and it clouds your judgement. He's still a top five 3rd baseman.

Here’s a quick metric for you that encompasses everything it’s called WAR. He was 4.1 last year. His 2018 and 2019 seasons he was a 7.9 and 8.7. In 2022 it declined to 5.4. 2023 it was 4.5 and last year it was 4.1. He’s 32 and his advanced metrics are falling. As I’ve said earlier I’ve liked the Astros since the 80’s and Bregman is my 2nd favorite Astro but he’s not worth what he and Boras were asking for. At least not anymore he’s not.

I actually was wrong. He’s 31 though. For some reason I thought during FA he was 32.

He won the golden glove in 2024.
You clearly don’t know ball pal

I'm not talking about his contract. I'm talking about where he stands among MLB 3B. According to Fangraph, Bregman ranks third in WAR among 3rd basemen from 2022 - 2024.]

Tell me you know nothing about baseball, without actually telling me you know nothing about baseball..
This post is beyond idiotic. Bregman is coming off a Gold Glove season and can play multiple infield positions. He’s a valuable right handed bat that helps balance the lineup, bringing experience and a winners mentality to the team. His leadership in the clubhouse, along with his connection with Cora made it a no brainer. The Sox are lucky to have him!

ere hasn't been a dramatic drop off like people tend to assume with him for some reason.
Dramatic, maybe not - but fairly steady and if you go from his prime in 2018 to 2019 to last year it's fairly significant and there's honestly no reason to think looking year by year from back in 2018 to now that the trend will not continue over the length of his new contract.
Fenway will help his HR numbers as the Crawford boxes did and may keep his WAR up around 4 for the next couple of years and he's still a above average defensive player and a solid player most teams would love to have.
He's being paid a salary commensurate with his best days, and almost certainly not commensurate with what he will produce in his early to mid-30-s, which is not at all uncommon with baseball contracts in my experience - but good for him. If they'll pay that you take it and do your best.

I remember I think altuve giving an interview about Bregs leaving and saying essentially aside from friendship the biggest thing he will miss where Bregs breakdown of pitchers. That Bregs has his own breakdown of every pitcher he’s faced on top of any analytics the stros had. He’s extremely well prepared and he shares that with all his teammates.

I have no doubt about that and he's still a solid MLB player. Those type of attributes are not really measurable in any tangible way so it's hard to put a value on them. Are they enough to make up for the decline in other areas of his game that inevitably come with approaching your mid-30's? I could not say.

Bregman's best days are long gone is a stretch.

So in a non salary cap league, they were crazy to spend that much?
Lol. Who freaking cares how much an MLB contract is.

I'm not a Bregman fan (as a pro, but Geaux Tigers and TYFYS), but is everyone in here really gonna pretend that at some point this summer he won't heat up and start mashing baseballs? Takes him time to find his groove every year.
