aye, but edward is a senior and deserves to go to omaha for his contribution in previous years. he sucks monkey nuts now but once upon a time he was a clutch hitter

Is it not? If we would have to play Monday, Bonvillain would have to start, because Edward is a senior basically.
Posted on 5/29/13 at 8:40 am to redfieldk717
He would still get to go to Omaha
Posted on 5/29/13 at 8:40 am to harry coleman beast
that's why they pay cpm the big bucks! he has to make those tough decisions!
Posted on 5/29/13 at 8:40 am to harry coleman beast
but he wouldnt get an at bat when we are beating the dog piss out of UNC

I'd like to take credit for bringing this point up in the other thread.

A new form of this is saying that stats dont count if we win

Yocom will be on the roster. He would have to play short if something happened to Bregman.
Ibarra would go to short with TM at third. I'm not saying Yocom should be the one left out, but he's not exactly the second option anywhere either.

As was mentioned previously, the new CWS schedule has really de-emphasized pitching depth. A team that wins the first two in Omaha can throw their ace in game three on 5 days rest. Given this teams make up, I have no problem leaving Newman off a CWS roster for added speed/ pinch hitting. Even in the loser bracket there is enough space to allow a team with 4 starters to play each game with a relatively rested 'pen.
The one place left that could call for pitching depth is the regional with a potential 5 games in 4 days. For that it looks like this issue will be OBE anyways with that big ol boot on Laird's foot.

So who would be the 4th starter?

As the other poster wrote, this is why PM gets paid the big bucks.
quote:Or, McCune, or LaMarche, or Rumbelow. And that would mean the other team would be pitching their fourth or fifth starting pitcher, too.

because Edward is a senior basically.
But frankly, I don't think PM would drop a four-year (healthy) senior off the post-season roster. That would send the wrong message to future players who are considering sticking it out for their senior year.

So you're saying we have 4 starters?

First, he created a word. Now, he created multiple definitions. That takes talent.

We've used FIVE starters this season when we had two mid-week games.

The debate is over who gets left off when Laird returns. Newman, Edward, Yocom, Barash, and Stevenson seem to be options from what I've read.

Without Newman on the roster, we have 3 starters. Anyone who says they have more confidence in McCune is full of shite.
However, I could see someone saying they have more confidence in Bonvillain due to him being a lefty if needed in that situation along with him being a senior.
Ultimately, I would rather Newman throw 60 pitches and then transition to the BP like we did against Arky.

4 CWS starters. Don't try to HCB me. You haven't got the talent.
