I don’t see Jobert being drafted very high at all - he’s a one-trick pony.

Laughably bad defense with huge holes in his swing.

Professional pitchers aren’t going to consistently throw to his wheelhouse like college guys are liable to do.

Thompson will play 2B or lose his job imo.

What derailed Lansville this year, injury?

Johnson is pretty quiet about the injuries. I think Hellmers, Edwards and Lansville all had injury situations this year that were never publicized much or at all.

Lansville was our most highly rated pitching recruit to make it to campus. The expectations were high but honestly I never did see it in the fall. He had multiple pitches and was competitive but I didn't see anything that was special. I honestly don't know that he is any better than Dutton. We will see, but like I said I expect some tough cuts on the pitching side, especially if the draft and portal go in our favor.

I would tend to agree if he doesn't improve. I'm hoping he makes a leap his junior year but if not, I hope we have a capable replacement at SS. It seemed that his mistakes came from him rushing the play. He will either learn to overcome that, control that or maybe move to 2B where he can slow down.

Can someone on here tell me what happened to Edwards? He was coming along nicely as a freshman and I remember him exiting the game late in the year with discomfort in his arm. Was he injured this year or just couldn’t take the next step?

Not freshman or transfers most likely

If he moves on, or stays, it will be because of the conversation he and coach had before the draft

I don't know much but I remember him pitching early in the year with a brace on his leg. Project mentioned his summer assignment might indicate the staff has plans for him next year.

If Jones makes it to campus he could DH. Defensively I don't see him catching as a freshmen. Morgan has a hold on 1B so DH might be his role as a freshmen and he could unseat Jobert or at least be the righty option.

The other complicating variable in all of this is what % of athletic funding the individual athletes are getting. That part we can’t see. Athletic award relative to athletic contribution is always a variable in these tough decisions.

Thompson had just 1 error his last 11 games this year and I think just 2 his last 16 games, seemed to settle in. That 2 in last 16 games extrapolates out to like ~8 over the course of a season like we just had. He also got better at the plate this year vs. last. No doubt he was a awful to start the season in the field, but unless we hit on a huge portal SS I dont see Johnson going in a different direction to start next season at SS. I think Guidry or Romero if they make it to campus would start out at 2B/3B with Johnson giving Thompson a 3rd year at SS to kick off the year. If Thompson struggled again, then he would probably make the move.

Most interesting to me is pitching and infield.

I'm anxious to see if we get all of Floyd, Reyz, and Gervase back. I think that would be huge. Floyd started to click at the end of the year. Reyz and Gervase are obviously huge pieces of the bullpen, especially if they don't have to carry as big of a workload. Tebrake is going to be a big help, but we still need 1-2 more immediate contributors/transfers to go with the incoming class/juco guys. At least half of the pitching staff could be transfers, juco, and freshman.

Morgan is really the only sure thing in the infield. I'd think Thompson finds a spot somewhere but I'm not altogether certain of that. Jay was very patient with Thompson all season, but I wouldn't be surprised if he brought in 2-3 transfers...plus you may have Romero and Guidry here.

I wonder if we pursue a transfer catcher, too. Milazzo is a defensive answer, and I don't take defense lightly for a catcher. But, we have to find someone that contribute on offense and defense if Milazzo can't. We will get 2-3 freshman, but they prob won't be ready.

I don’t think Floyd is going anywhere. I’ll bet Reyz goes to the draft and we might get Gervase back. He feels like the guy that says he has unfinished business and wants to make a team run, less about draft stock.

I don't feel great about getting Reyz and Gervase back but we will see. I f we do then that would be huge.

I think Thompson will start the season at SS next year. If he gets beat out, then so be it. I'm curious to see what kind of transfer they land as an infielder, if any. I think Romero and Guidry both can handle 2B, SS, or 3B. I think Guidry will end up more the 2B or 3B route. I am feeling a little optimistic about both making it to campus but we will see.

I agree with everything you said about the catcher position. I don't think any of the incoming freshen will be ready to get behind the plate unless we get Neal to campus. I don't feel great about that though. Will be interesting to see how that position on the roster plays out.

Assuming we will see more movement this week as far as transfer portal guys that are currently on the roster.

Jones and Travinski for sure. Leto, Frey, Beloso, maybe Dugas are capable, I believe.

There are those that believe Reyzelman and Gervase are both gone. These are good targets for a NIL deal in my opinion, so who knows. Gervase would actually qualify as a covid senior, so there is a little bonus to getting him back.

There are only so many covid seniors, so can you get 5 that contribute? Tebrake, Dugas and Gervase would be a very good three. We could fill the other two spots with current players or perhaps upgrade in the portal.

i dont beleive that you let 18 homeruns walk. I think you rely on him improving and isnt that what we have off season for and a hitting coach for?

i love college baseball but i really hate how its this attitude of people cant improve and even after a good season....looking to kick underclassman to the curb.

i get it, its just a shitty thing.

really hope the 11.7 scholarships going away soon, stops this. Hoping that combined with that, nil and that increasing awareness of the shitty life minor leaguers live allows kids to stay and really develop as juniors and seniors.

I never said that. I'm just saying there probably won't be a spot for him in the OF and at DH he will have competition. If he gets drafted it would be a big gamble not to take it.

Another thing to consider is that Jobert just had his first season facing SEC pitching. No reason he can’t improve moving into next year.

I don't see where this was ever discussed but participants in the Draft Combine were announced last Friday. The Draft Combine is now in its second year and I see that more high-profile prospects are now attending this event. Those who fully participate (i.e. complete the medical exam) will receive a bonus offer no less than 75% of the slot value if selected. After the Kumar Rocker fiasco, this provision was added.

LSU has the following players participating:

* Jacob Berry
* Justin Crawford
* Robby Snelling
* Tucker Toman
* Cade Doughty
* Jacob Misiorowski
* Jaden Noot
* Mikey Romero
* Gavin Guidry
* Chase Shores
* Michael Kennedy
* Jared Jones
* Aiden Moffett
* Eric Reyzelman
