So, your opinion on who is better out of Alabama / Oklahoma St. is as razor thin as Oklahoma State making that last second FG.
No, its based on a team beating an underdog to stay undefeated. Something OSU didn't do. In a year like this, it matters when other factors are equal. I see winning as a pretty big deal, you..not so much.

That's the problem. There more than likely won't be a consensus

I have always maintained that you should vote the team you think is better above any team you believe isn't and never waivered once from this.
Well, that's not necessarily the "system". A voter may vote for the team he or she feels is more deserving based upon the season as a whole.
From Mark Schlabach:
Can Oklahoma State catch No. 2 Alabama in the BCS standings?
The Pokes, who didn't play this past weekend, moved to No. 3 in the BCS standings . . . The Cowboys still trail the Crimson Tide by 0839 points, which is a little bit less than last week's .1083-point deficit.
But if you look deeper into the BCS standings, you'll see that the Cowboys made even more progress in the Harris Poll and USA Today coaches' poll. . . Alabama's lead was trimmed to 508 points this week . . .
The human polls make up two-thirds of the BCS formula and a team's average in six computer polls make up the other one-third.
The Crimson Tide finished its regular season with an 11-1 record after beating rival Auburn 42-14 on Saturday. Alabama lost to LSU 9-6 in overtime at home on Nov. 5.
Oklahoma State plays host to No. 10 Oklahoma in the Bedlam game in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday. If the Pokes win, voters will have to decide whether they want to see an SEC West rematch in the BCS championship game, or elevate the Cowboys past Alabama in their final ballots.
The Cowboys and Crimson Tide also are rated very close in the six computer ratings. Alabama is No. 2 in four of the six computer ratings and Oklahoma State is No. 2 in the other two. Neither team is ranked worse than No. 3 in each of the six computer ratings
Again, if, in the end, the BCS rankings determine OSU to be more "deserving" and rank them No. 2, there will be no rematch. Whether some people agree or not, the BCS will have served its purpose.

That's why the voters are there, right? So that it is factored into the current system
Actually the voters got more power when the computers allowed a team that didn't win their conference Championship to play in the NC. Now guess what, you want another team who doesn't win their conf to get in over a team that does.

I agree, but it's a subjective vote based on not wanting a rematch. Nothing systematic to prevent one. Right now, Bama is number two. OSU would need to beat OU by a helluva lot to change many people's opinion.

Actually, I think 10 points would give the voters enough cover.

I still believe most people think Bama is a better team than OSU. In order to keep this from happening again, you would have to make systematic changes.

You seem to think LSU will have trouble beating Bama? I don't see it. Not in the Dome.
That's not what I said. It's just unfair to LSU and I have a big problem with that.
Would any other school other than Alabama be getting this much coverage about just walking into the BCS NG? I don't think so. Not tOSU, Florida, Texas, us..... anyone.
As stated earlier, the voters need to consider all this. I've got a problem when a team that loses a game to a team in it's conference, doesn't even win it's division, let alone it's conference and they get a trip to the BCS NG? It would be completely messed up if it happens.

BCS National Championship game 2011. Due to the inability of the fans and media to come up with a viable opponent. LSU will play an intersquad game . Purple vs. Gold ! Tickets will go on sale tomorrow so we don't have to listen or read this crap for another two weeks. Now if you think Gilmore made sense,I think this makes a lot better sense. LSU vs.LSU ! What a game folks ? Game of the millenium !!!!!

Eh, don't know. Depends on how much anti SEC rematch backlash there is. 10 pts is still a pretty slim margin to make that kind of jump.

At least the conversation has begun. ESPN did everything they could to forget Okie State.
A conference champion vs a third place finisher.

Probably not. LSU and Bama are pretty elite in the minds of many and clearly heads above any competition to some of these voters.

For the record, btw, I think LSU would beat Alabama in the Dome in January. But I think that matchup is actually somewhat of an injustice, and I think it would be more interesting to see the SEC champ play a team from another conference. If Okie State wins, they're the top candidate.

I don't think it would be a competitive game.

This is my sentiment as well

You may be right. I don't really know for sure. I'd like to find out. See, I think stomping the dogshit out of a Big 12 team would prove a lot about the SEC to the rest of the country.

I agree. But I feel as though we have earned the right to play someone other than Bama. We won "the Game of the Century" at Tuscaloosa. It is not easy to beat a good team like Bama twice, especially if we suffer any injuries this weekend while Bama rests. This doesn't pass the smell test.
Exactly but you'll be called "scared", "pussy", "etc". You shouldn't have to beat a team twice in one season period! Especially if you beat them at home. Hell, let's play the best two out of three if that's the case.

I agree with that.
Here's my problem with Bama being there:
A. We played them on the road and beat them
B. They didn't win their division of the SEC
C. They didn't win the SEC
D. They don't play an extra game risking injury
E. They sit for over a month and wait for the bowl game
That's not right. That's not how the BCS is supposed to be or was made to be.
I'm not scared about playing Bama or anything similar like you stated a minute ago but this would be bullshite if it happens.
Go to the next in line.

Eh, I would rather see a competitive game. Unfortunately this year it appears LSU and Bama are in a class by themselves.

Like when we played Bama in early Nov? Defensive definitely. Competitive? Hmmmm 4 missed field goals? Nah.....
