quote:Yeah, Luis left on his own accord when he still had eligibility. That is completely different than the guys that thought they were out of eligibility and made career decisions based on that knowledge, then months later 5 for 5 gets enacted and they’re left in the dark. Some of us have been saying all along that the NCAA could have done right by just grandfathering them in and be done with it.
The guy left early, and he signed a contract when he went undrafted; he didn't run out of eligibility.

Trey Kauffman-Renn. Played 5 games in Summer League, but never signed an NBA contract. I think that's where the disconnect is coming from. Pretty sure Luis did.

Sankey physically needs his arse whooped if that is allowed at Kansas but Luis can’t play
Why is it that the ones who are always kicking and screaming have absolutely no clue what they are talking about?

RJ Luis left college, with 100% full eligibility remaining. No new rule was put in place that gave him any extra eligibility that he had run out of. He made a decision to leave, and go to the NBA. Whenever he did that, it was over for him.....as it should have been. Those trying to compare this case to a bunch of the others are absolutely clueless.
This case is similar to the Bama kid last season. He did play in a few games, but then was ruled ineligible. If people want to cry about something, cry about Bama getting to play him for a few games. But the comparisons being made are apples to oranges.

I legit can’t think of a single reason as to why RJ Luis should be eligible.

The simpletons only need one reason. He was going to wear an LSU jersey.
Should the jersey he was going to wear say "Auburn," or any other school, the exact same people would be screaming from the roof tops that he should not be able to play.

You can give me all of that eligibility stuff, but again, he signed an NBA contract. I think that's the difference in him being allowed to return vs Luis. Doesn't matter what my opinion on the matter is, or how hypocritical the rulings are. That's their logic, and apparently we are ok with it.

Both should be ineligible

No one was really expecting Luis to be eligible, but the lack of consistency in eligibility decisions is infuriating.
He left early and willingly forfeited remaining eligibility. He would still be ineligible under the new rules. There’s nothing inconsistent about that at all.

quote:I agree. I was speaking in general about the inconsistency, not specifically Luis. No one gave him much of a shot at being eligible. I think the highest percentage was a generous 30% chance on the recruiting board and that was months and months ago.

It’s a distinction without meaning, though in this case both players should be ineligible for other reasons. Kauffman-Renn already had 5 years in college, so he’s not eligible under the new rules anyway. Likewise, Luis forfeited remaining eligibility by declaring early for the draft. He’s still ineligible under the new rules.

LSU basketball is snakebitten and this goes back 40 years. From Prop 48 to Chicken Pox to Tito Horford to 1990’s second round exit from the NCAA to the damn strong offer era…this organization is unmatched with matters like this.

Oh forgive me mr. genius. I should’ve asked you before I posted what I said since you know all things.

I agree that making distinctions between summer league contracts and preseason contracts as well as between UDFA contracts and NFL mini-camp participation agreements is inconsistent and meaningless in the context of college eligibility. Either we should be letting all 2022 players return or none of them.

One signed a pro contract (even if only 10 days) and one did not sign a pro contract after being drafted. What is a joke? Because these situations are not the same...
