Oh nos! Positive statement! Douches intersect here!

I don't mind being positive. But Rivers didn't show much. There is nothing to evaluate on his play. Handing off shows us nothing. Now you can say you looked solid in practice, in a scrimmage...but not in the game. He didn't play enough to earn a "solid QB" evaluation.

But I'm all for being positive in regards to Sat. Saw alot of promise.

Wow. Only at LSU are the QB standards so low that we praise them for handing off the ball.

"Didn't the drive he lead result in a TD?"

JJ led many touchdown drives also

"well, since nobody on this board is earning $4M a season for his opinion about how to bring along a young qb, I stand by mine!"

That $4 million bought us 92 yards on Jan 9th, can we keep the salaries and stuff out of these discussions?

He did look poised for the one busted pass play he was given. Would have liked to have seen more. I really didn't get much out of seeing a concussed Mett struggle through the first half.

damn, we are so enamored with backup QB's here that we are praising Rivers for the poise that he showed in handing the ball off?

LSU was able to run the ball against a dominant North Texas defense because of Rivers contribution to the running game.

He did show the ability to pretend to block on the turn and toss play up the middle.

Yeah he's amazing at handing off.

I was thinking the same thing. He sure can hand it off well...tells us a lot about him as a QB?

I'm not knocking the guy at all. We already run a pretty low risk high reward offense if u will so why everytime the backup comes in coaches don't let them throw it. To me games like these are the absolute best time to get an extremely inexperienced QB some quality game reps which should be more than just handing off imo.

First fricking game of the year.

Mett needed more meaningful snaps last year and should've thrown more passes. That was a mistake.

1 game in and we already had to play the back up. This is why qb recruiting is important. LSU rarely makes it a whole season with just 1 qb.

Oregon had to go 4-5 deep on year. It's extremely important to have a competent, ready backup

I'll give you that no team can do it like alabuma did it Jan 9th, but it's the formula for beating LSU. Stop the run game at all costs and make us use the pass. [buma's defensive rush was a controlled rush because of the possible run threat of Jefferson. With Mett, it doesn't have to be a controlled rush - it'll be an all out get to the QB.] Can we do that - win with the pass? Not if the head coach is determined to continue to use the pass sparingly and run almost exclusively, even when it doesn't work [don't cross the 50 yard line in first half, etc]. And, against SEC opponents, they may not be able to do it to the extreme as alabuma but 1 or 2 can do it well enough to punch a hole in our NC bubble.

And? It was against North Texas and all he did was hand off...how can you evaluate anything from this? ...first game or not doesn't matter. It's who we played. You want Rivers seeing the field against Auburn? Florida? USCe? Unless we are up 30 I sure as hell don't. Hopefully Townson and Idaho will provide Rivers more of an opportunity. We shall see.

A lot of people "got it" but were blasted for saying so. Mett needed more experience last year, and LSU's record would have been at least as good as it was.
