He was the best QB in the SEC every year he played.
Love me some Hodson, but nah.
Clearly he was, he was the first team all SEC QB all 4 years. He's also # 16 all time in passing in the SEC. The only guy With playing time from 1986-1989 in the top 20.
Curious who you thought was better at QB in any of those years?

From an outside perspective I can tell you it was Hodson. Risher was very good but you are as good as the team around you. Risher had a great 82 season but Hodson did it over the entire career. LSU would run this 15 yard dig route and that ball from Hodson would get on Davis or Moss in a HURRY and he was deadly accurate with it.
As far as QB's we hated to play against, Jones was certainly one but nobody ever concerned us like Hodson did.
Wickersham and Woodley were a bitch to play too. They were great pure passers that gave us big problems.
Yall had a run there with Woodley, Risher, Wickersham and Hodson. I remember Sol Graves being a big time recruit but never seemed to pan out. Who can forget Tim Byrd? He and Wick were locked in that battle during 83 pre-season.

Hodson by a wide margin. Risher was serviceable and had excellent athletes around him.

Early 50's, late 40's as all players who played CFB in the 1980's. Just looked it up. Hodson is 49 and Risher 55.

Hodson was selected to the first team of the All-SEC Team during each of his four seasons at LSU, the only player in school history to achieve that feat.
2 SEC Championships.
You tell me.
Fisher was the best at setting up screen passes.

I'm still scratching my head as to why Hodson didn't pan out in the NFL
Arm strength. Which is why, stats aside, Bert Jones is the best quarterback to ever play at LSU (yes, that includes Yelberton Tittle, Rohan Davey, Jamarcus Russel, et.al). And I love Tommy Hodson.
Bert Jones was a physically gifted athlete that also understood and mastered the mental part of the game. Had it not been for nagging shoulder injuries and a very serious neck injury Bert Jones would have continued his NFL career and be talked about in the same breath as John Elway and Dan Marino.

Mickey retired after 25 years of service, Tommy coached BB last year not sure if he is staying around.
Hodson by far was the better.
Risher was a gamer that had A lot of talent around him.

Hodson may have been a better basketball player. Dude could handle and shoot the rock.

But in 1982, we also lost to Tulane and I always hated Tulane.

I have Tommy Hodson as my #4 QB. In LSU History, Risher is #11.

You are correct, I initially just looked at his bio on Wikipedia, it states 4x first team All SEC. But a deeper look does show he was not in 1988. 88 was by far his worst season at LSU (still pretty good though).
I appreciate the feedback, always looking to get my facts straight.

Be honest, you have Jordan Jefferson as #1.

I thought Slack was the AP first team, and Hodson was the Coaches selection? Back when the coaches voted for the all conference team.

That may be right. Not sure.

Hodson was pretty good right out of the box, where Risher needed some developing.
I think Risher caught up and was just about as good in his last year, keeping in mind his team wasn't nearly as good as Hodson's.
