Great man and ambassador for the school/state. I went to an event the other night where he was being honored but word got round that he was not doing well enough to attend. RIP legend.

Shaq probably had a bit better career in terms of accomplishments.
Shaq won 4 NBA championships to Petit's 1. Shaq was Finals MVP 3x. Both were ROY. Both were 2x scoring champions. Petit had one more league MVP (2) than Shaq (1).
From an individual standpoint both were as accomplished. It's the championships that probably push Shaq over the top

I was a young boy watching the latter years of his career. He could shoot from distance, and bang the boards with Bill Russell.

The best athlete to ever come out of my High School. RIP to a legend. The 1950 State Championship trophy had special significance to any student with a bit of sports knowledge who sat in the enormous trophy room at the entrance to the main building.

I saw him in ‘24 & he was reminiscing about how Pop, Joe Dean, Don Loughmiller, et al used to help “keep the dogs off of him.” He called them his “Indiana Mafia.” Great team, along with All Decade teammate Benny McArdle, Ned Clark and others. Godspeed, Mr Bob.

RIP to one of the all time greats.
I didn't know him but he used to own a house in Destin on the block where I stayed several times a year.
Long live Dale Brown because he is about the last of the iconic old timers.

Not a single all LSU team voter would leave him out. He and Shaq are our two best big men. Pistol, CJ, Shaq, Bob, Rudy. Best college all American team of any

I met Mr. Bob Pettit when I was 4 - 5 years old at our church, FUMC, in Lake Charles. He spoke and gave a Christian witness. I think it was some time around 1965. I shook hands with him after he talked and I remember he had the biggest hands I have ever held. Of course, I was just a youngster, but that memory is still with me today. RIP Mr. Pettit. A legend in our hearts and minds.
