The man played offense, defense, and special teams and was great on all of them!

In particular, that era of LSU football had Dietzel who pioneered platoon football in a time of limited substitution (and before hyperspecialization) the famous, "White", "Go" and "Chinese Bandits" era - in fact, in the same famous game, 10/31/1959, Ole Miss had the ball 4th and goal with 18 seconds to go - Elmore was in (Gibbs was either dinged up or just gassed at that point, because he was to them as Cannon was to us) and was tackled short to end the game. The players combining on the tackle were #12 and #20, the starting QB and RB for LSU - the stars of the White Team (Rabb and Cannon).

It was always said that, as much as he and Mac loved the Bandits, Dietzel wanted the White Team on the field, on defense, if the game was on the line.

Legendary Tiger, legendary man. I am happy to have had the fortune of him doing my braces back in high school. I'll never forget some of those conversations and the random visitors he would always get while he had his huge fingers up in my grill. RIP.

Sure glad we got to see him one last time at this year's spring game...

He was walking around the front gates at TS talking with fans and laughing it up. This most definitely comes as a shock. RIP.
