He wasn’t the runner he ended up being when he got to LSU. He was listed as a pro style QB when recruited not a dual threat.

I give JJ a ton of credit for realizing that he was just an ok passer of the football at this level and he ended up being a very good running qb by the end of his career.

Anyone who bashes a QB who played for Miles, Dinardo or Hallman needs to reevaluate their criteria.
Think about it.
Howard, Booty, Davey, Nall,Lee, Jefferson, Jennings, Harris.
All those guys were highly rated recruits.
The only ones who lived up to their recruit ratings were Booty and Davey who were developed by Saban and Fisher.

Why are we such a dramatic bunch, the offense could have been better...but neither Lee nor Jefferson nor Jennings nor Harris were ever going to be really good quarterbacks...period. The offense was too dependent on good QB play an decisions, so when we didn't get that they went too conservative to manage the games and win...which they did. It was ugly, infuriating, but also for the most part effective.

Why would you do this to yourself?

JJ was not a good enough passer with the offense we ran. If they would have put more quick short passes he could have been better but it was always run, run, play action pass downfield. Jarret Lee would have been in heaven with our current offense and one if the best QB in the SEC.

Jefferson was a winner. He was a limited QB, but made some huge throws when it counted the most. He gets zero credit for his pocket awareness and play making ability especially on 3rd down, both with his legs and arm.
Accuracy and anticipation were not his strong points but he was a better player than most want to believe.

He won the Game of the Century in Gumpville against that great team and coach.

He was athletic and yes would have been better in our offense last year. He did not have the decision skills of Burrow, there was a post recently in which Burrow was the quickest decision maker from last years class for QB's entering the draft

Jefferson threw for 4,733 yards and 34 touchdowns during his career. He ranks fifth for career wins by a starting quarterback at LSU with 24. He is fifth in LSU history in passing touchdowns (34) and rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (12). He is sixth in LSU history in career passing yards (4,733), sixth in completion percentage (58.7), sixth in career completions (398), and sixth in attempts (678).

Jefferson holds the LSU record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,018 yards. Jefferson’s ability to run the ball forced opposing defenses to account for him which allowed LSU to defeat opponents through its rushing attack. LSU’s emphasis on its ground game coupled with Jefferson sharing time with Jarrett Lee reduced Jefferson’s passing yardage. Thus, Jefferson threw for less than 100 yards in 11 games, or 34% of all games he started.[7] However, of those 11 games, LSU only lost 3 games.
Jefferson was the youngest starting quarterback in the SEC and the youngest to start a season-opener for LSU since Y. A. Tittle in 1945.
2008 Chick-fil-A Bowl of which he was the offensive MVP in a 38–3 win over Georgia Tech.
Jefferson led the Tigers to a 10–2 record in the regular season and beat the Texas A&M Aggies in the 2011 Cotton Bowl Classic with a final score of 41–24. In that game, Jefferson threw for 158 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also rushed for 67 yards and 1 touchdown.Jefferson threw a key pass to running back Stevan Ridley in the LSU game with Alabama on November 6. The Tigers prevailed over the Crimson Tide, 24-21.
